Help ID'ing a bird Empty Help ID'ing a bird

Post by brercottage385 Sun Feb 03, 2013 5:28 pm

Saw a beauty sitting on top of a high fence post - was there for about 15 minutes. The bird was black on the back, wings, and head - there was a white strip on each side of the head. The front chest of the bird was a goodness yellow. It had a straight beak - which made me think he might be a fisher or woodpecker of sorts. I did not hear him sing. Any help with suggestions as to what he is? Thanks

Thanks Don - you hit the nail on the head - so to speak! The one I saw yesterday had a slightly blacker wing color - and sat more upright light a king fisher! A new one for me!
