Why I Love Digital Music
Just finished listening to some FLAC files, Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and Billie Holiday with Lester Young. You can have your turntable and scratchy vinyl, this music is great no matter what format.
Music does not get better than this.

The Chieftains featuring Ry Cooder...San Patricio 2010
Just stumbled upon this FLAC a few weeks ago.

The musical souls of two nations, Ireland and Mexico, are movingly brought to life in ‘San Patricio,'

Re: Why I Love Digital Music
As long as they leave most of the data when they compress I don't mind digital.
It is when they don't that the music disapears for me. I don't like to listen to
digital from the folks who see how much music they can get on a stick. FLAC sounds like
a good idea to me especially when you consider how much space we have these
days. Is it catching on?? I assume all this is on a computer and is decoded by
the motherboard? Can you improve the decoding with external d to a as many
motherboards are mediocre decoding and sound wise? How does the size compared
to a CD song on your computer? Can you buy a better motherboard for decoding
and sound as a base to a music system for digital system for the house?
Very Interesting stuff
Miles kind of blue is my favorite Miles album. If you ever get a chance to see the 60minutes
Ed Bradly interview try it. I kinda undestood his attitutes towards folks after the interview.
He use to call up the police department and tell them that he was going out in his sports
car and not to arrest him as the cops kinda assumed a black man couldn't have a sports car.
He has an attitude and talks straight whether you can take it or not . What music!!!

From Wiki: FLAC (pron.: /ˈflæk/; Free Lossless Audio Codec) is a codec (compressor-decompressor or coder-decoder) which allows digital audio to be losslessly compressed such that file size is reduced without any information being lost. Digital audio compressed by FLAC's algorithm can typically be reduced to 50–60% of its original size, and decompressed into an identical copy of the original audio data.
I just checked, and the first song on the album "So What" in FLAC format is 181 MB. The same song in MP3 320 is 21 MB.
I play FLAC files through a Panasonic DMP-BD87 Blu Ray player and use the DAC from my AV Receiver.

Re: Why I Love Digital Music
The affect of the motherboard is only in terms of how fast it does it, not the quality. For that, the software used is the key ingredient.
FLAC is certainly popular amongst enthusiasts. MP3 is in the realm of kids who share their stuff, or those who haven't gotten into the whole quality thing.
Shootfire, those damned little earplugs that shipped with Apple products and MP3 players are the biggest problem. I may have mentioned my daughter could not believe the sound difference when she was here one day and her earbuds broke... I gave her a decent pair I had purchased. It had never occurred to her that music could sound good.
