Digital Telecable
I currently have the analog Telecable in my casitas however it looks like the English channels are gone for good and my guests keep complaining so it looks like I need to upgrade to the digital service that has the English channels. Does one simply go to the office in Riberas to get an upgrade and pick up the digital tuner boxes?

I went to Telecable and was told that they are no longer offering the digital cable packages, only the basic cable. No more English either. I am not sure what will happen to existing digital subscribers??

I have a digital package and it was working when I headed north in early May. I presume that it will be working when I get back. I thought that this was one of the primary income sources that Telecable (Izzi) has lakeside.

Re: Digital Telecable
I think that they probably made a mistake because if anything they would be cancelling the basic analog channels because digital is the way to go now. The digital channels never did have the United States NBC ABC channels. That was on the analog feed which was removed two or three months ago. If you sign up for a digital package you also get the analog feed now but that sounds like it's going to change when they quit supporting the analog feed. The digital channels have CNN, CNN International, Bloomberg and Headline News. I personally watch NBC News on the internet,
Re: Digital Telecable
No, they speak English and were quite specific. They said "sorry we are no longer offering digital packages only basic like you already have". I asked them twice as I couldn't believe it. Now maybe they have no more boxes or maybe they think their system is overloaded....... Who knows. I asked why and she said she didn't know.

I just passed on what we did here. Cut off the Telecable to the Casita and got a extender to take our wifi out there.

Re: Digital Telecable
I get digital telecable. They used to have digital channels starting at 101 and going up to 999.
They now have a new digital channel numbering system going from channel 1 through channel 999. No not every channel number is assigned programming. In fact a quick check of their latest channel lineup, that they printed out for me last week, shows about 215 channels, 48 of which are audio only music channels.
Many of the programs were originally in English and later dubbed to Spanish. And when you choose the SAP or Secondary Audio Programming option you get them in English. Heck they even have 3 different CNNs one in Spanish, one meant for the US and the third option meant for the whole world where the US news is not the primary subject.
They have TV5Monde (world news) which in SAP is broadcast in French and DW which is in German and Spanish
I could go on and on.

Re: Digital Telecable
I was sure CanuckBob was wrong when he said that Telecable would not allow more persons to subscribe to digital TV. That was why I wrote so many nice words about digital Telecable hoping more people would subscribe, an therefore maybe they would increase the size of their information highway between here and Guadalajara..
Well, I dropped by the Telecable office this morning only to learn that indeed CanuckBob is correct, and that they are not accepting more digital customers. What a surprise.
I further asked if they knew if this was a temporary move. No one in the office had any idea what the future plans were.

When we discontinued Telecable a few months ago, nobody in the office knew nuthin' and nuthin' we wanted was available. Bah.

Re: Digital Telecable
I heard from the parents of an employee of Telecable, that he was discouraged once the new owners took over because he feared that there was going to be less support than before..
I sure hope that with time this proves to be wrong.
