As I think about it, Mexicans play with words so much. What they call a "speed trap" could easily be a total coloquialismo that doesn't translate in any way literally. Quien sabe.

In case anyone really cares, I think it's usually called a "trampa de radar" or "trampa radar."

Also the radar is set to cars going away from it so radar detectors may not detect it until it is too late, the only way to avoid it is to know what to look for or drive the speed limit which can be arbitrarily slow.

The camera/radar definitely captures the image as you're going away from it. Photo is rear license plate, bla bla bla....enough already.

"The pedestrian bridge is there for that reason.." Astute observation but not very relevant if you squash one on the highway/carreterra. You will be tied up (perhaps literally) for a lot of time. Start carrying a blanket in your car to cover the body while waiting.
