Kilometer 33
I now know of three people who've received speeding tickets on the Guadalajara-Chapala Carretera via the new automatic radar/camera equipment. When renewing the car registration of a friend yesterday, it was discovered that she had received one at Kilometer 33 also. I asked the fellow where that location is, and he said, Ixtlahaucan, near Aguas Escondidas. The speed limit there is 80 KM/HR. So keep your eyes open for a camera in that area and slow down if you have Jalisco plates.
The multa was $485.

I believe it's mounted on the overpass right there, you can see it.

Re: Kilometer 33
It's definitely 80 KM/HR, says so right on my ticket. Also, a friend who commutes between here and Guadalajara believes he saw a camera on a tri-pod in the median in that area, so not sure if it's mounted on an overpass or not. What he may have seen is surveying equipment, but he's pretty sharp. I'll check with him later today.
And I agree with CanuckBob. 80 km/hr is a bit, ummmm, difficult.

Re: Kilometer 33
The reduced speed there is because it is going through Ixtlahuacan.

I already am and it feels like a bargain compared to the $160 CDN speeding tickets from where I am from. At these low prices I can't afford not to speed........jajaja.

LOL,sometimes adding an o to the end of a word works, but in this case "speedo trapo"conjures up a different visual, and not a pretty one either.CanuckBob wrote:El Speedo trapo......jaja.

"LOL,nobody does 60kms per hour on the carreterra." Probably a logical reason to set up the radar. Lots of people cross the carreterra not using the bridge.

Carreterra=highway. The pedestrian bridge is there for that reason.Chapala Payaso wrote:"LOL,nobody does 60kms per hour on the carreterra." Probably a logical reason to set up the radar. Lots of people cross the carreterra not using the bridge.

I take this thread as fair warning to slow my butt down when I drive to/from the Lake next month in a rental car! I don't need to be receiving bills for tickets months after the fact from a member of the rental car cartel. They probably have special add on fees and taxes on tickets too!

The rental car companies in Canada certainly do so it wouldn't surpise me.

Re: Kilometer 33
Re the confusion in this thread re the speed limit.
As I mentioned in the op, the camera is evidently not located on the carretera at the entrance to the town of Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos. It is within the municipio, closer to Aguas Escondidas, a bit north of there.
Speed trap? Hmmmm...."trampa de velocidad"?

Not to be confused with "a trampa de cristal"...although they may have a lot in common.

Re: Kilometer 33
What's a "trampa de cristal"?
As I think about it, Mexicans play with words so much. What they call a "speed trap" could easily be a total coloquialismo that doesn't translate in any way literally. Quien sabe.

Re: Kilometer 33
Usually the camera is on a tripod in the center median and there are 2 transito trucks parked on the side of the road. They usually place it on the flat parts between Agua Escondida and the turn off to Ocotlan.

In case anyone really cares, I think it's usually called a "trampa de radar" or "trampa radar."
