DONATIONS TO CRUZ ROJA
Many of us have been stopped at the stop light in front of Walmart be young men and women wearing white medical garb, soliciting donations, and many times they give you a card to put on your dash board with a RED CROSS on it?
I discovered today, that they are in no way affiliated with Cruz Roja, but, actually 7th day adventist church out of GDL or Tonala. Go figure, a church misrepresenting itself! I always kicked in, but now am extremely ticked off that I was "tricked" into a donation, that was not going to my assumed destination. Just an FYI!

Thanks for the heads up. Although I give to others, I didn't really know or trust who these people were.

I've wondered what, with their soliciting in the middle of a very busy intersection, kind of service they would receive if they were hit by a car and taken to the Cruz Roja while in 'uniform'.

NOW that is funny....maybe quid pro quo. All kidding aside, this kind of misrepresentation sucks.....I talked to a Cruz Roja volunteer today, and he said many times @ Super Lake he was selling tickets, and advised that they had just donated 100 pesos to them on the Caraterra!

Re: DONATIONS TO CRUZ ROJA
I've known for some time they were affiliated with a religious organization. I look for the Cruz Roja name tag all real volunteers wear when collecting. It's also usually in the paper, and they put a little red cross sticker on your wind shield. I always give generously when the real Cruz Roja is collecting there.

Very funny...and have you seen the mime who does the mimed fake car window washing at the same intersection. I was trying to come up with the appropriate question...something along the lines of "if a mime doing fake car washes gets hit by a real car at a busy intersection....." but ran out of steam. That intersection is dangerous enough without fake Red Cross folks and mimes with death wishes. Keeps you on your toes though.

Re: DONATIONS TO CRUZ ROJA
You know, maybe it's me, but I don't see why anyone would confuse these 2 or 3 people with Cruz Roja colecta people. Different clothes, usually there is a CR vehicle nearby, younger and usually male CR juventudes doing the collecting, the 'collection box' is the standard pyramid shaped plastic thing with a large red cross on it, and they put a sticker on your windshield.
Nothing like the middle aged same people that solicit money wearing some kind of Salvation Army type garb every weekend. To me, they just LOOK churchy.
I'm particularly mesmerized by the the woman with the nurse Ratchet hairdo. . .how does she doooooo that?

Re: DONATIONS TO CRUZ ROJA
I don't think they are trying to decieve anyone, they have been at it for a long time and the Mexicans know that they are church people, not Cruz Roja. The only complaint I ever hear about them from Mexicans is that they are from Guadalajara so why are they collecting money here? I used to give to them , thinking they were with the Red Cross and lots of foreigners do the same. Maybe that's why they are here.

Of course thats why they are here and every year the gringoes give them money. Using the red cross is a violation of a Worldwide Red Cross
copyright. They are thieves and a good example of why I so mistrust religious people. I can't imagine how they come up with a rationazation
for there misrepresentation and stealing. All I can say is Ladron. If you tried to do this in US or Canada the lawyers would be on you so fast it
would make your head spin. I have no idea why Cruz Roja tolerates this. I would at least put up signs telling people they are not the red cross.
For the folks who have not travelled much in Mexico it is very common for Red Cross in Mexico to collect on the roads like the religious people
are doing so many folks probably think they are Cruz Roja. If I sound a little bit pissed it is because I know how much we need this money locally
for Cruz Roja and I don't like folks thinking they have given when they have not. Our Cruz Roja needs all the money that can be raised.

Lots of Mexicans have no idea also. I asked my neighbors and they said Red Cross.
Do you really think folks have not got on there case and told them that they are thieves.
They know I would bet money on it.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Re: DONATIONS TO CRUZ ROJA
I only just discovered this yesterday, so the thread started. I never really paid attention, just donated without question.....they looked medical, so to speak. The Guadalajara Reporter has run articles about the situation, unfortunately, with the high volume of newbies visiting Lakeside this time of the year, this church finds E Z pickens.
Cruz Roja in Mexico is not what the Red Cross is NOB.....Blood and disaster. Here Cruz Roja provides a miriad of services including Ambulance service. I've met Dr. Sam, and I know a list of services available now, and what additional services will be added in the coming year. @ Cruz Roja will be forthcoming on our web board.

Me neither. When they first showed up way back when, I assumed it was Cruz Roja but then I looked at them could tell they weren't. And then I asked them. They didn't misrepresent themselves. I give the nice lady with the sweet smile a coin whenever I go by and she tells her God to bless me. I figure I'm getting the better deal on that, and certainly don't feel cheated.

Re: DONATIONS TO CRUZ ROJA
Isn't it also the case where Cruz Roja from Guadalajara has been known to collect out at the Lake? We have always thrown loose change in the ashtray or other compartment and as we get to the end of our visit, we donate the accumulation to Cruz Roja but I have to admit to being taken in by some of these other operators. Now we are much more cautious attempting to make sure who we are donating to.

Re: DONATIONS TO CRUZ ROJA
At the very least, having a red cross on the collection containers is deceptive advertising.
....and then there are the folks with the blond Jesus on their gear. I haven't yet figured out what church they represent, or why Jesus is depicted as a blond.
We save our change in a container and when it's full, we take it over to the Cruz Roja desk at LCS. That way, we know where it's going.
