The Price of Gasoline - Up, Up, Up

The price of gasoline has been going up since Calderone removed the subsidies. But, we should still feel fortunate that we're not paying $ 8 + a gallon in Europe.

On Friday we paid 10.81 for Magna. I figure 10.81 x 3.8 liters/gallon = 41.078 / 12.7 exch rate = $ 3.23 per gallon.

Yesterday they said on the news the average in the US was $ 3.30 according to AAA.

I have to run to Costco today and they are $2.88/regular. Our prices have been dropping for weeks.

I think everyone knows that, but for many years Calderone controlled how fast the increases were on gasoline and propane gas. That's gone now since early last year.

Hasn't the price of gas been dropping all over the US for awhile? It was close to $ 4 a gallon this year.

Very true! There were times that gas was reported at around $5 in California. No complaints from me when they drop this low.

Total BS. First of all the subsidies are still in place. Second, the rate of price increase on petrol was decided by the legislature some years ago.

Aren't they gradually phasing out the subsidies?

I wonder how much gas would cost and how much Pemex could contribute to the national budget if it wasn't rife with corruption and featherbedding? Ditto for CFE and the cost of electricity.

I do appreciate the fact that we are not subject to those wild fluctuations in price they have NOB. And even more I appreciate the car can spend most of the time in the garage here thanks to our walkable location.

got gas yesterday at costco in phoenix, $2.97.9 lowest it has been in a LONG LONG time

Remember, the subsidies are in place due to lack of refinery capacity. Some 40% of Mexico's gasoline is refined in the USA. If and when the new refinery comes on line the subsidies may be reduced. On the other hand, the refrendo on car registration lasted decades after the bill for the 68 Olympics was paid off!

Don't forget to get your gas at stations that actually sell "litros de a litro".

Canada has always had high gas prices. I remember filling the rental car in Toronto, summer 2010 for $ 1.05 CDN a litre.
