El Piano Rojo
Wow! The intimate venue, the decor, the crowd, the early show times and live cabaret style entertainment, who could ask for more? Well not our group of 5 Saturday night or our group of 6 last night and we'll all be back for next Saturday's show. I could go on but really folks, you have to check it out. Oh and get your reservations early because it's standing room only for those who don't.

Re: El Piano Rojo
Sounds like someplace we need to take the girls when they come down for Christmas.
Is any night better than another?
Thanks RB

Re: El Piano Rojo
This place is a sort of low rent Finochios. Okay I guess if you like ugly drag queens from Puerto Vallarta as entertainment.
Re: El Piano Rojo
You bet Juan and I'll wager you all will have a grand time.
Papa chango, you might want to stick to writing what you know about. All the shows this weekend were by a lady, a very talented lady with an incredible voice. And the shows next weekend will be preformed by a manly man. Maybe you should drag yourself out more often.

Re: El Piano Rojo
Personally I enjoy a good "drag" show.... except I usually leave feeling ugly! If they have good shows by a guy and good shows by a lady...IF they ever did have a drag show... I imagine it would be good too.

If you like hanging out with gays, trannies, drag queens and old gringos then this must be the place for you. Also be prepared to pay for overpriced drinks and a cover charge.
Re: El Piano Rojo
Interesting Papa Chango...you're the only one on two forums that's had anything bad to say about the entertainment.

I sure do remember! Lucian something, really nice man, used to come into the bank on Powell and Market where I worked then. Wow, a blast from the past. He was so good as Sophie Tucker!

Re: El Piano Rojo
I am VERY enthusiastic about it. This is a whole bunch of fun! It's not often you get to experience something completely new in life. The husband likes it well enough to go with me. I am so grateful for entertainment that does not involve trying to eat and converse over rock music.

Drink prices are middle of the road for the area and were set to be so. The 100 peso cover charge goes to the performer as their only compensation for the great effort they put forth.
As to the rest of your comments... Well, my dad used to say, that's why they make chocolate and vanilla - because not everyone likes strawberry.
If gay people make you uncomfortable then, by all means, stay away.

Ah, opening night...
You mean, the night there was no cover charge and free food and free sangria? That Opening Night?
I see...

Re: El Piano Rojo
Gay people do not make me uncomfortable. I lived more than 30 years in San Francisco and Marin County. What makes me uncomfortable is gay people's idea of what's entertainment.
In addition to the cover charge, a shot of mediocre tequila cost 60 pesos. You can go to Bar Tomas and get a shot of good tequila for 20 pesos. But, Thank God, there is not that so called entertainment.

Re: El Piano Rojo
Oh yes. That is right. Every living person in San Francisco and Marin County is comfortable with gays simply by fact of living there. And, if some homophobe moves there for any reason they will lose all those feelings because they are LIVING IN SAN FRANCISCO.
And, speaking of stupid responses: ALL “gay people” like the same kind of entertainment? They must learn about this gay entertainment (and to like it) in the indoctrination classes after being requited.
Give it up papa chango. You sound like an ill-informed, mean-spirited Neanderthal—which I am sure you are not.

Right.
No homophobia contained in that statement.
Nope. None at all. WHAT was I thinking?
Listen, I am not trying to make any converts. You didn't like it, you didn't like it - s'all there is to it. You have every right to feel the way you feel. But most people seem to think it's a great addition to the local entertainment scene and THAT was what we hoped to accomplish. It isn't a "gay bar" but it is definitely gay-friendly and that isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Live and let live, brother. S'all I ask.

Well papa, we like hanging out with our friends and going to the different events lakeside. And at all of these events there is a grand mix of our lakeside community.papa chango wrote:If you like hanging out with gays, trannies, drag queens and old gringos then this must be the place for you. You're kidding right? The cover charge is 100 pesos, that's less than $9 U.S for live entertainment and a beer is 30 pesos.

Re: El Piano Rojo
For more than 4 years in San Francisco I worked for the San Francisco Department of Public Health, specifically the VD clinic down on fourth street. I would guess that more than 80 percent of our clients were gay. We had an outreach program that took me to many of the gay gathering spots in San Francisco including the bath houses. So most of my working day was spent with gay people trying to cure their infections and stop the spread of STD's. If I had a problem with gay people do you think that I would have been successful at this job?
The reason I went to the opening night party was I was told about it by a friend (gay). I won't be back.

Re: El Piano Rojo
Papa. you have made yourself very clear that you did not enjoy Piano Rojo. You made that clear in your very first post. It is your inability to stop telling people that you did not like it, why you did not like it and repeatedly bringing up the gay aspect of the place that makes me wonder what ax you are grinding. Where you worked and what your job was is not the issue. How you are (repeatedly) expressing yourself now is. It has been my experience that generally people without a particular ax to grind express their opinion of a place and move on.

Re: El Piano Rojo
Always not talked about... just like in politics... is the elephant in the room. What elephant? The one that makes me uncomfortable watching a guy do a super impression of a sexy woman... enough to make me think "That's weird, I'm actually attracted to this... guy." Whoa, that's so confusing for some.
I have to remember the last time I saw a great ass go by on a bicycle and then realized it wasn't a woman pedaling. Which tells me once again: "It's all in the mind."
