The good news is that ND has no chance against Alabama.

@Jim W, you're recalling the 2001 Fiesta bowl, which OSU won 41-9 over the Irish. I dont know why you think the Irish were trash talking prior to that game. They were lower ranked and the Beavers were 10 point favorites. Sure was a whoopin, tho few teams could have held up against future pros Chad OchoCinco Johnson and TJ Houshmadzedh (sic).
@cheena gringo, how do you think religion gets bent wrt ND football?
@David, we shall see. That's what I heard all year, but its also why they play the game!
Looks like there are plenty of college football fans lakeside!

As in the case of my BYU example where one would expect players to be LDS, I am sure that every recruit is checked for his Catholic beliefs before being provided with an offer sheet.

NoVaDamer, Notre Dame has always been arrogant, they were quoted in the press that they were superior, and that the Beavers were over rated. For me that was trash talkin'...however since I owned a sports bar back then in Portland....twas great for BIZ!

JimW, well, that game came during our lean years, so we had no businesstrash talking, but I'm suresome Irishman somewhere did it. All those National Championships go to your head
Cheenagringo,
Guess I dont get your point. Catholic hospitals dont serve just catholics, nor do catholic charities, nor do catholic universities. They serve people serious about faith. Its somewhat ironic you mention the LDS: the Irish star player this year is Manti Teo, a mormon from Hawaii, who came to ND because "they understand the importance of faith."

The Irish are overrated. They'll fold like a cheap suit against an SEC team. Hell, USC would have creamed them if they'd had Barkley healthy. ND has no offense and just a little defense. I love to see them lose and been waiting all season!

Jim:
Keep in mind that the TV contract signed with NBC really set the precident for all these new TV contracts being signed by the various conferences. I will give Notre Dame credit for having a very strong alumni association with members scattered all over the Country which makes the TV market thing work.
NoVaDamer:
Hard to explain to someone of obvious faith but I have a personal problem with colleges or universities who claim to adhere to higher religious principles for all of their students but bend the rules or principles to bring an obvious non-believer on board because they have athletic talent. And yes, I do understand the principle that the end justifies the means!

Ain't that the truth, and such a fine, moral, upstanding organization they turned out to be! The thing that pisses me off concerning ND is that when they play in a Bowl game they get to keep ALL the money. Every other school has to share it with their entire conference. That just plain sucks. They should get only a tenth of the money just like every other school. So they'll go to the Nat'l Championship and get about $14 Million while Alabama will get only a fraction. It's bullshit. I gotta believe that they KNOW that they can't beat Alabama and they couldn't have beaten Kansas State or Oregon. They're 3rd rate at best. Never the less, money talks.

ND is an independent and not a member of any conference which results in them being able to keep all the TV monies and also all of their share of bowl revenues. Now, in the case of the Ducks or the Beavers, the Pac 12 has a share policy for all of its members. There have been plenty of years when either team benefitted even though neither went to a bowl. Can't have it both ways!

Neil, Notre Dame gets all the revenue every year. I haven't wasted time researching, but, no matter how bad Notre Dame is, they get at least 6 or 7 weeks prime time exposure!

Re: NCAA FOOTBALL FANS
Just to set the record straight for JimW & David, the Irish dont get to keep their full share of the BCS; that changed years ago. They will get about 6 million, while the AQ confereences get 23 million. Course, the conferences have to split their money up, but that's what they choose to do. Heres a link:

Cheenagringo, ok, I understand where you are coming from: I hate hyprocisy too. But do you suppose Notre Dame or BYU dont admit non-believers who aren't athletes? I can guarantee they do, and they are treated the same as other students. These schools dont only admit thier own faithful, nor do they suggest they are "better" because they are religious. Thye simply state they bring a religious perspective to their students development.
But enough about that...who wins between Georgia and Alabama?

First of all, Alabama vs Georgia - I don't really care since these are schools from a part of the Country I don't really care about. I don't begrudge Notre Dame since they are an independent and jumped on the bandwagon to get a national TV deal with NBC before the other schools figured it out! I did get sick and tired of always finding them on NBC each Saturday when they really didn't have a great team or even a good team.
You are correct about hypocrisy. My battle is more with BYU and the image they attempt to project. Back in a previous life, I use to have to go to Provo on business. Some of the craziest "private clubs" I have ever attended and most of the participating females were card carrying LDS members!

Thanks for the link. Never the less, ND gets a BIGGER check than anyone else. It's bullshit and simply not right. On the other hand, it will be fun to watch them get handed their lunch.

Re: NCAA FOOTBALL FANS
As an Alabama alumnus who even took some crip courses with Joe "Willy" Namath in the 60s, Dawg, of course, for tradition´s sake and remembering drunken post-game revelries in Birmingham after Bama games at Legion Field, must root for the Tide against Georgia and then the national title in the BCS Bowl even though I married a Catholic but a French Catholic, not a serious Catholic so there is no need for me to feel any sympathy for Notre Dame and, anyway, God is non-sectarian which reminds me of an old joke.
Back in the 70s when Bear Bryant had died and Shug Jordan was still the head coach at Auburn, the classic intra-state rivalry was in the last seconds of the fourth quarter and Alabama was ahead 15 to 14. Auburn had the ball on Alabama´s two yard line and it was 4th down and goal. Shug looked up to heaven and prayed; "Lord, God, I have never asked you for much but I now pray to you, what shall I do? Go for the touchdown or kick a field goal? If you guide me at this critical time. I´ll sing your praises into eternity. God responded, "Well Shug, by all means go for the fieldgoal." Shug thanked the lord and went for the field goal which attempt failed as the kick was wide of the goalposts and the clock ran down with Auburn the loser that day. Shug looked up to the heavens and beseached the lord, "Why, oh why did you tell me to go for the fieldgoal. Lord?" To which God replied, "Damn if I know, Shug; tell me Bear, why did we tell him to go for the fieldgoal?"

Cheenagringo: i getcha!
David: true, but ND gets more because...well, those conferences agreed that ND gets more. When it comes to money, all the fan talk goes out the window, and its just business. So i dont know what fairness has to do with it; you pay what its worth.
Hounddog: you win; best Bear story I heard yet.

Here we go 2 top 4 teams, both SEC....Alabama vs. Georgia.....I would love to be a Mole in the BCS office, as they try to manipulate the computer....keeping them both in the top 4, and idle Oregon out!!!

Well, what could be better for the BCS now that Bama has beaten Georgia in a really fun game. Alabama and Notre Dame in the BCS Bowl. Two of the nation´s most legendary programs. At that time, Dawg will be in Chiapas in the backwoods where no television set that I can access willl carry the game but what a fun matchup. Who really cares who wins as long as they whup each other´s asses with style.

From the current bowl projections, I would have to say that the best game may just be the Oregon Ducks vs Kansas State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl?
