Contact one of the garage door opener companies. Antonio Leal on the Caraterra is my choice.

Cesar and his son Esteban worked out very well for me. Just down from Mom's in Riberas. Had them install me a new opener just a couple of weeks ago. Far lower price than anyone, very quick, pro install. Quietest door motor I've ever seen. Came back next and installed a metal roof over the opener to protect it from the rain, then installed a huge button near the door with a light and a lock, no extra charge. 331-398-0164

Make sure whatever you buy, to get a quick release cable....not a bigger pain in the A@@ than a power outage, and having to dismantle the opener to get out!

A security benefit if it has to be dismantled and a ladder that isn't available but locked up. A back up generator can help you get out if you need it. I believe we bought ours at Homedepot...the opener that is. Also safer to have the manual switch locked inside the house rather than just inside the gate outside.

As far as I know, you can only get manual releases when the door is the overhead type, not outward. Nothing to pull. However, he showed me the two large thumbscrews that release the mechanism. Even better, although it doesn't come with it, there is a battery backup available built in... just need to get the small 24 volt battery.

I have manual release ropes to pull, on both my smaller one lain side opening garage doors and one on my wider overhead type. There are also systems with rechargeable battery backup power supplies that will open and close the garage door more than a dozen times before one has to pull the manual release rope.

My smaller garage door opener is connected to the single phase that I backup using 8 six volt deep cell golf cart batteries and photovoltaic panels to recharge them should there be no power for a long time.

PS. If you own and don't rent one of the best returns on investments you could make would be to use sun to generate some of your electricity and hot water. You get a great return on your investment, much better than the stock market.

Hmmmm... Cesar said he didn't have anything with a pull release. Too bad.
