Barra de Navidad Restaurants
We're heading to Barra for a few days and I'm seeking restaurant recommendations. Tell it like it is! Gracias.

SeaMaster; really nice upstairs, and some pretty interesting and yummy meals. They have those wildly carved and painted chairs and tables, Tonala-style, and an upstairs that's covered but open and nice and breezy, overlooking the water. Family insisted we eat dinner there three times the last time we went...
Not everything is perfect, of course. The price is good and the food consistent. If you get the right waiter, you'll have a hoot. Located about halfway down the walking area towards the malecon, oceanside.
For fries, guacamole and cold beer, plus 2for1 happy hour, the joint to the right of the taxi stand, which has a hotel and a restaurant, with a small open patio by the water. Watch the sun go down with good margaritas. ANd they serve a few decent supper dishes, like shrimp fettucine... (I don't recall if guacamole is on the menu, but they always prepared it for us.)

Re: Barra de Navidad Restaurants
La Magnifica but no beach views for really good food but they still have limited hours. Take a left just past the local bus stop (across from taxi stand)and first block turn right. A few doors on your left (English spoken)
All beach/lagoon restaurants are over rated except for Bananas in Hotel Barra de Navidad for breakfast. Also great street fish tacos in the morning across the main drag from taxi stand listed above
We have been having temps in low 90's with 'feels like' in the low 100's so may want to wait awhile
Don't forget Melaque for beach and food options

SeaMaster has no upstairs or beach access/view due to the heavy surf for the last year. SeaMaster was always over rated for food and price but was good for decor and view
Re: Barra de Navidad Restaurants
I was there a year ago July. Has the physical aspect deteriorated that badly?
I'm pretty picky with my food, and the seafood and steak dishes I had were always just fine. As I said in my previous post, though, not everything is perfect, but they are consistent, and prices are reasonable for what you get in that touristy stretch of Barra.
Our tastes obviously differ, because I would never go back to Bananas for what I consider to be their overpriced, underwhelming breakfasts. There's a little joint on the walkway that I much prefer for breakfasts.
My personal druther is to go to Melaque for the day, to the (I think) Casa Blanca at the end of the beach, and eat incredibly inexpensive shrimp, whitefish, and ceviche all day long, while relaxing on the beach or in the shade.

I have to agree with Sparks. IMO Seamaster has terrible food and the breakfast at Bananas is very good. The latter has been doing a great business for something like 30 years.

The latter has been doing "business", period, as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, David, try them out, let us know what you think.

We enjoyed the breakfast at Bananas also (especially after walking over from Melaque).
This thread should be in Jalisco, by the way.

I don't know where they are now; they tend to move around, and are only open during the high season, but ROOSTER's is a great, great breakfast in Melaque. http://www.costalegre.ca/Restaurante_Roosters.htm

Roosters has been open for a few months across from Banamex (maybe all summer?). They also had one in Barra near the lagoon but it's seasonal I believe. Roosters on the beach has been closed for two years
The big burrito style omelets covered in sour cream or crema is my favorite at Bananas

Hectors Q Corner is a gringo hang out and used to have good burgers and have a dark beer on tap. Same directions as La Magnifica but on the corner
