Driving to Barra de Navidad - old way or via new macro?

Subject says it all. Driving to Barra for first time since new macrolibramiento has opened. Leaving from Ajijic. I know the old way via Joco bypass, trendy El Molino, and the hook-back to Colima highway toward the beach. The topes don't bother me. Never been on the new macro highway. It's hard for me to imagine it makes much sense going out of the way toward the airport to take the new route. Seems longer/out of the way. Or is it? I don't care about the difference in tolls. Whichever is quicker.

Having gone both ways many times I am back to going via Joco. The new macro saves maybe 5 minutes but costs way more in fuel and tolls. I do use it to go to PV.
