Mexican Traditions Empty Mexican Traditions

Post by espíritu del lago Sun Oct 14, 2012 9:36 am

Since living in Mexico which traditions have you adopted and why. It doesn't have to only be holiday related. When I moved back to Texas we opted to build stone fencing along our property. Where we live there is bounty stone and rock on the property.

All our salsas are homemade as are tamales. We love atole and on cool or cold evenings my wife will make us and our friends some while we enjoy our newly added out door kitchen. Where we live there are many Mexicans, many are neighbors so we don't miss Mexico as bad as we used too. We still look forward to our visits although not as frequent as the past.

So what have you incorporated into your daily existence?

Eating our main meal around 3PM,then a light dinner around 9PM.
I live in Guadalajara so I've learned to drive more aggressively.
Being more careful when walking espescially when crossing the street.
Being more polite and in less of a hurry.
Not flushing the TP or drinking tap water.
Not whining about stuff so much,my Mexican family and friends don't so why should I.
Attending more celebrations with family and friends,Mexicans love their fiestas.

While I remain a fanatic about being on time and will not make commitments to be somewhere if I feel something may disrupt my plans - the Mexicans have taught me understanding and flexibility when someone else doesn't operate in the same manner. An "Oh Well" and a plan b, c or d really eliminates the stress!

I married a Mexican. Everything changed. Love every minute of it. Have not been back to Canada in 4 years.

Viva Mexico!

I have learned to enjoy shopping at a dozen little favorite stores or stalls rather than going to one supermercadoand buying everything at one time - at least part of which is sub-par.

Gracias,

And I love living the Mexican way of life.

Sunday is Family day. We are off to Celebrate a birthday for Pancho's boy. He is 4 today.

Will have to miss some NFL football, but that's okay. LOL

I really appreciate the Mexican custom of giving all the girls a little kiss on the cheek.
