My husband has one. I also use it. Works well here, infact sometimes our Vonage conx is not real good....especially if one of usmis one the internet. When Vonage is bad we use his cell. Even though the Verizon cell has a U.S. # when you call from here in Ajijic to a local phone you just use the Ajijic or cell area code and number. Works great!

Works great! Wouldn't do without it. When someone calls from the the states they just call like you are still there.

Re: Verizon cell in Ajijic
I checked with verizon in the U.S. a nation wide plan with mexico/canada including aprox 700 minutes a month runs $75.00 a month. they have about 5 levels of pricing based on the minutes, this also includes texting.

Be very careful to double check the terms for "Mexico" coverage. It is my understanding that all current Verizon plans that give you Mexico coverage require that at least 50% of your monthly calls be made inside of the US. A lot of times the reps aren't filled in on all of the details, so you need to make very sure you are getting the proper information and ask over and over about this point as I've heard of some that got burned with this.
I have an old Verizon plan that is no longer available that doesn't have this restriction, and it works well. The cell coverage in this area isn't that great. I believe that they use IUSAcell for the network, and they don't have nearly the coverage the Telcel has. I never have any problems with a signal at my house with my Telecel phone, but there is only one corner of my house upstairs where I can usually get passible reception with the Verizon phone. When the reception is good it works well.

With Verizon, please check very carefully what their data rate is in Mexico on whatever plan you sign up for. Granted this is a three year old story but it is evidence as to how Verizon can jerk you around:
