Car Permit
I am going to Texas next week to pick up my car and obtain the permit so I can bring it here. I will get my permit in Nuevo Laredo and was wondering if it is possible to take a taxi from Laredo to the Aduana and leave the car in Laredo, obatain the permit return to Texas and put the permit on or do I need to take the car to the Aduana when obtaining the permit?

Re: Car Permit
Why not order it online and avoid the hassle?

Re: Car Permit
My car was in the parking lot, they never asked to see it and I put on the sticker myself
Online has to be mailed to a US address, no?

Re: Car Permit
David is correct, ordering on line costs an extra few hundred pesos, and Mexico sends overnight, 2-3 day delivery max. Then all you have to do is scan and email copies of documents back.

Re: Car Permit
Assuming your car has US plates and is legal to drive in the US, you can drive it to aduana and go to a local bank to get the fees, and then return all to aduana for the sticker and permit. A US plated car may be driven in Mexico up to 40 miles inland before problems occur. Insurance for Mexico?

Re: Car Permit
I know all of this. all I wanted to know is if the car has to be present at the aduana to obtain the permit. I really did not want to go into the details as to why I did not want to take my car over

In the old days when the Mexican Consulates could issue car permits, they would never physically check the vehicle. Just the vehicle documents. At our particular crossing Aduana was about 25 to 30 miles from the border and they would sometimes check the VIN against the permit. It seems that one never knows what they are going to do!

Re: Car Permit
When we had a US plated car 5+ years ago they checked our VIN with the sticker before putting it on.
