One theory - it's a war to control territory and transportation routes.E-raq wrote:Any hints on why they're doing this?????

Yes, supposedly there was an operation last night in Providencia (glad I wasn't working late and had school) and they got some top guy, news says he will be taken to Mexico City and paraded around cameras tomorrow.
According to Guad news they are still burning cars but in areas farther away, i.e. toards Colima, Guzman, Arandas, etc.

Re: Not this shit again... Narcoblockades
Friends just came back from Guadalajara - burning car on the highway coming into Chapala. They were re-routed by the owners of the burito restaurant so they could get home. Other cars already stuck and blocked in by cars behind them must have spent hours trying to get home to Lake Chapala - plus all the Guadalajarans coming out. What is the point!!!

Re: Not this shit again... Narcoblockades
We went to Costco at 12:00 today the Joco way and it was a great drive. Less than 2 hours later coming home we saw at least 8 Army vehicles with over 60 men, 10 to 12 state police vehicles, 5 federal trucks, 3 fed cars, numerous municipal vehicles and 3 Ambulances passing us on the shoulder of the road and going on wrong side of the road heading out of Guad. There was no where for us to turn around so we kept going.
Saw three cars in the middle of the road coming into Guad still smoking. They were totally burnt. Looked like white cars. Only could see the white back bumpers. The police looked pretty rattled as they were heading back into Guad pretty fast also. Saw one guy handcuffed in the back of a state police vehicle.

Mexico City • Federal Police (PF) Oceguera Nemesio captured Cervantes, "The Mencho", alleged leader of the New Generation Jalisco Cartel, which allegedly drove the surge in vehicle crashes and fires committed by members of organized crime in this entity and Colima.
Officials from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) federal MILLENNIUM confirmed to the series of violent acts were due to the arrest of suspected drug trafficker who operates in alliance with the Sinaloa cartel led by Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.
Through intelligence, elite forces apprehended PF The Mencho, who escaped last March of a military operation in Zapopan, Jalisco, where he was apprehended Valencia Erick Salazar, "85", then leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generation, criminal organization that emerged after he was shot the capo Ignacio Nacho Coronel in July 2010, and who was one of the leaders of the Sinaloa cartel.http://www.milenio.com/cdb/doc/noticias2011/d0c48fff2e2b7bc219046de52340ade1

Re: Not this shit again... Narcoblockades
Damn, I hate to see this "crap" start up again! I guess we got lucky in that we drove to the airport to catch our flight out prior to all of the action starting. Having just completed a fairly long drive, we were kind of thinking that things had died down a bit since we saw so few military or Federale checkpoints along our trip. We had exactly two military and one Federale on our side of the road and they all waved us straight through.

Re: Not this shit again... Narcoblockades
The narcos are pretty smart when it comes to moving/selling drugs and paying off/corrupting police and politicians, but that's where their brains end. If one of the jefes are apprehended, as was yesterday, they turn to acts of desperation.
One of their contingency plans in these circumstances is to go off like a wounded grizzly bear, hoping (with no chance) at best, the government will turn loose their man and at worst, just to cause havoc and mayhem as an act of revenge.
These acts are the brightest answer they can come up with, to their problem, as they are not the sharpest knives in the drawer once they get beyond their normal criminal activity.
They do not have the resources or connections to get outside of the country help, such as the authorties can and do.
They believe that this is a show of strength and will cause fear in the populace and dissention by the public against the police/army/etc.
Believe me folks, this is not a show of strength, but an act of desperation.
Burning 22 vehicles in the city of Guadalajara with over one million vehicles on the streets, will not win them "the drug war".
I hate to see people say that this situation is hopeless, and more or less give up or run away, when it's not.
If there wasn't any hope, then we all might as well jump off a high cliff.
Not giving up is part of not being defeated.
Enough rant for tonight

I take it that most folks have no memory of those bygone days of "Summer in the City" -- Detroit, New York, LA, Chicago, D.C. -- "Burn, Baby, Burn!" and all that.

Almost simultaneously with the start of the blockades the army killed six New Generation Cartel sicarios in Tonaya, in western Jalisco, and seized grenade launchers and other weapons.
