TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
I have just received a Linksys Home Monitoring Security camera and am having difficulties in getting it to work correctly. It is the type that broadcasts a signal to a modem and then the video can be viewed on the internet.
It came with a dvd containing simple to follow instructions. I followed them to the letter but the camera only will work with the network cable connected (a great picture and sound), as soon as it is removed all is lost. I have found and installed the IP address of the modem as instructed but the problem persists. Any suggestions?????javascript:emoticonp('')

Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
Does the camera have an on/off switch for the WiFi signal? What powers the camera? Batteries?
Linksys Camera
The camera comes with a 110 volt transformer that plugs into the back of the camera, and I see the input is 5 volt.
Also on the back of the camera is a receptacle for the network cable, and a reset switch (which I have used to reboot it already)
That is it.

Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
When you go into your network can you see the camera connected as a media device?
Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
The camera is sending it's wireless signal to what? Seems like you would need a wireless receiving router on your network and configure both router and camera to work together
Saw one reference to working with an IPhone ... maybe any smart phone. A wireless receiving device will search for networks .... your router would have to do the same. Don't know if Telmex routers can

Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
No easy answers. Usually this kind of setup requires that the camera needs to be plugged in to PC to start the setup, then once the wireless is discovered by the network, the WEP key is entered and with any luck it works; then the cable can be removed. I have a constant problem installing wireless printers that don't want to latch onto the network.

Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
But would the PC need to be on as the head of the network. Seems with the right router you could turn off the PC while you are away
Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
Can't you just hit "find a wireless device" under your network settings?
Yes Sparks the Telmex routers work fine for this. I can control my PC via my Iphone via my home network with a Telmex router.

Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
My IPhone appears as a connected media device under my network settings.
Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
The PC would only have to be on to view the feed, correct. But it of course would be necessary to set it up first.

Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
I ran a web page and webcam over a telmex router with XP but the cam was direct connected and software running of the PC so I know outside access is possible.
I would think the point to this is having no PC after the setup and accessing the cams builtin web server only thru the router
I guess that would be difficult because of no static IP and I had to have a DYNDNS client running on the PC for a constant address
OH well .. back to the original question

Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
We just recently had visitors from Mexico and the US that were still using XP laptops without updating XP to the 2nd SP.
The wireless router did not support them.
There is also Vista/Win7 compatibility issues, going the other way.

I think the OP might need a DNS service provider to do what he wants to do.

Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
Generally speaking, a static IP at your modem is not needed for this. Or a DNS service; those are good for connecting to your computer or webcam plugged in to a computer from a remote location, that kind of thing. In this case, it's the camera itself that will have the static IP.

Within your local network which is usually easy. It's the outside network access that is a problem

still trying
Spent some time this afternoon with Canuckbob trying to figure out this problem, and still no luck. Spent a few hours trying after Bob left - still no luck. The instructions to do this are not many and simple it should be a couple of minutes to hook this up but so far it has been a couple of days and no luck. Running a cable is starting to look like the only alternative.
I am running Windows 7 and Firefox. The camera is a Lynksys model: WVC54GCA, modem is from TELMEX,

Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
Hi, i have a little experience with this kind of systems
1. You have to have a DDNS account (dyndns or no-ip are free)
2. You have to configure your Wireless Network (network name and wep key) into the Webcamera software (connected with hard wire)
3. You have to configure your DDNS account into the Webcamera Software (don't forget setting the IP as a Dynamic, never use Static)
4. Very Important: You have to Open ports on the Telmex Modem in order to allow the Internet to get access to the Webcam.
Once you have this done, you can unppluged the cable that connect the camera with Telmex Módem.. that's it
If you need assistance i will be visiting friends in Ajijic on July 30th and maybe i can help you configuring this.
Hope this information helps..
Good luck!

This may sound stupid but if you have another switch laying around plug that into the Telmex than plug the camera into the second switch.
I can only make my Net Talk module work when I plug it into the second router that is plugged into the same telmex box you have. Maybe
same problem???? Helper Guy did check my Telmex unit and it was set correctly FYI.

Re: TECHNICAL HELP NEEDED WITH COMPUTOR ISSUES
Another jab in the dark.
Your internal router address is probably 192.168.0.1, your PC should be a subset of that (192.168.0.2-192.168.0.254). You should have given your camera an IP within that range (like 192.168.0.100). You then should be able to type in 192.168.0.100 in the browser and find the camera. If not try 192.168.0.100:8080/ or what ever port the builtin server uses
