The Swarm List
Just returned from Lake Taco, always YUM and fun to talk with Carlos y Fernando, and it looks like they are holding their own. The bottom dining area was full and I don't know what was going on upstairs but saw some traffic up and down.
However, passing Mariscos Lety on the way, couldn't hope but notice not one single table with diners.
I suggest we might put Mariscos Lety on our list too, they are also the Paz family and the death of Abel was a serious blow to them as well, and maybe bump them up toward the top of the list a little. Their food is really good too.

Re: The Swarm List
We had 6-Pack Friday there last week and by 3 or 4 pm it was almost full. Now that the messy rain has started it is very dusty there with the road mess, I feel so bad for them.

LOVE Lety's, they have looked empty or closed so often lately (chairs stacked on tables) that I have been very worried. Let's do them soon.

Re: The Swarm List
The Restaurant Swarming group needs to go to Hacienda Ajijic Steak Place on Wednesday or Thursday. Wednesday is Seafood for $ 99 pesos. Thursday is meat day for $ 99 pesos. And their food is excellent. I can attest to th4e Filet Mignon as one of the "best" in Ajijic and my friends love their Salmon.
Jorge, the owner told us that he is not doing well. I'm sure that if you ask him, he would put both specials on the same day for you. He's a really hard working nice young man.

Thought we were trying to help out the struggling mom and pop restaurants, owned by our neighbors. Hacienda Ajijic does not fit the bill in any way, shape or form. chico.

Re: The Swarm List
The waiters are probably struggling to support their families since business is off. Even gringo restaurants employ a fairly large crew of local people.

Just your opinion. he's a haed working Mexica who employs at least 6 waiters plus overhead.
Who do you think has a higher overhead Viva Mexico, Mario's or Hacienda Ajijic? The answer is obvious and because the small mom and pop restaurants have such low overhead, they can survive longer.

Re: The Swarm List
Valid point, John.
In fact, ALL the personnel in the local restaurants are hurting and I doubt the owners are rolling in the profits.
I was over at Roberto's on "bargain Monday" (55 pesos for complete lunch) which you would think would bring a decent crowd........and ours was one of the few tables occupied. The waiters are looking rather forlorn there, too.
I'd hate to be paying the overhead from the profits at any local restaurant, at this point.

I'd suggest whichever restaurant we hit it not be on their discount days and we tip large.

Agree. And I think there's plenty of room on the list for any and all restaurants we want to add that seem needy - if only for the staff that works there.

Re: The Swarm List
I agree - all restaurants are employing local staff and they are hurting. And if the owner can't make a living they may close with dire consequences to the employees.
The only one I suggest we avoid (and it is my favorite) is Panina's because they are packed every time I go there - you are lucky to get a table.

I tried out Lake Taco Sat. for the first time (yum) since they now have a non-smoking section. And they were packed. There was only one tiny table free on the ground level free for me. I put their name in the envelope but not sure they can get our group in there unless it is slower on a week day.

Re: The Swarm List
I have added Mariscos Lety's & Aurora Italiano to the draw cards. We can select our next destination at tomorrows function.
Re: The Swarm List
We didn't book for today's swarm because we had a previous engagement, but will make a point to visit Mario's in the next couple of days. Hope you all had a great meal.

Re: The Swarm List
I was disappointed that I didn't get to meet most of you attending. Hope to remedy that next time.
