COSTCO'S Prices on NY Strip Steak
We went to Costco today. We were going to buy our favorite Boneless Center Cut Pork Chops but they were all out. I decided to look at NY Strip Sirloin steaks, even though we weren't going to buy any.
The price was $ 395 pesos a kilo. Divide by 2.2, that's $ 179.55 pesos per pound. Divide again by a 13.5 exchange rate = $ 13.30 US per pound. OMG!!! I was shocked at the price. The same steaks in the US are $ 8.99 to $ 9.99 a pound.
I'll just keep eating my Filet Mignon steaks at Hacienda Ajijic on Thursday nights for 99 pesos.

John:
You do not want to even consider visiting Paris where Dawg has been living for about a month now. Here, even a second class subway ticket is the equivalent of about $1.40US one way anywhere in town. The French don´t cut their beef (or very popular horse) the same way as in the U.S- or Mexico but you ain´t gone be buying no high quality beef for $10.00USD a pound. Dawg will be reporting back to you soon after I get back from the local butcher.

I go to a btucher in the mercado in Jocotopeca and filet minon to melt in your mouth is 120 pesos per kilo - that's a little over $4 per pound.

Absolutely ridiculous prices on Seafood. Costco is there to serve the well to do and rich Guadalajarans as well as the NOB types. They couldn't survive without them. We saw Pancho there with his flat bed cart.
We only buy our great quality seafood at Pacifico Pescaderia in La Huerta Plaza. Their costs are very reasonable.

I happen to be at our local Costco today and made a point of checking the price of the NY Strips here - choice were $8.99/lb and prime were $16.99. I was surprised how much smaller the prime were but then again we never purchase NY Strips since we happen to prefer rib eye. Just personal taste!

John, if you have not done so, check out the premium beef that WalMart now has. Bought just over a one lb ribeye a week ago. Best steak I have had in seven years, here. It was costly, about ten dollars USD. Prices are going crazy all around the world on everything. Scary times. chico
