Tope guys at it again

About an hour ago installed topes (the annoying kind like in front of Soriana entering Chapala) going both ways in front of Sunrise in SAT and in front of 7-11 in Riberas and there are no markings!

No doubt they are also night mechanics.

They will probably install stop lights next....LMAO...the way it is going on the Carratera, we will have topes and lights every 100 yds, much the same as Walmart to Panino.

What do you consider the annoying kind? Aren't they there to stop traffic in dangerous areas?

One set is ok but when they put 9 in a row or 18 like they first did in front of Soriana, then it gets annoying.

Oh yeah! It felt like about 75, and they did it around Ixtlahuacan at the same time, too. It was a freakin nightmare.

I believe they do it to slow down the "get aways" so maybe not a good time to complain..........

Yes but they install them at night and then don't mark them, I wonder how many people last night got a big surprise.

I agree that would slow down a getaway.

If you hit them fast enough, especially without knowing, most vehicles will likely skid out of control. Perhaps that is what they are counting on.........

Slows them down to a stop out near the Pemex station and La Canacinta in West Ajijic. They are the very high steel type. You'll notice they have had them for a long time going into Chapala. Same type and no one dug them out 'coz they can't. They were welded to rebar before installation.

This is Mexico's answer to everything, just put in more topes! This is what we really need is to back up the traffic more than it already is. I would really like to ask the moron that decides to put them in what is he thinking.

Well, in La Canacinta traffic was flying up a blind hill despite a lot of pedestrians and horses, and a lady and her grandson were killed AS they returned from a funeral for a motorcyclist who had been killed. The tragedy and irony were not lost on the Chapala municipality and they put in the topes the next day. That's what the moron was thinking.

Are you too much in a hurry that you can't slow down or stop for topes to make it safe for pedestrians? Maybe they should put lights in instead, so the idiot drivers here can run more red lights and the Town won't replace their bulbs. Maybe if the cheapos who buy bulbs, would buy good quality bulbs they wouldn't burn out as often.

I drove the area in question this afternoon. The new topes are little. With decent suspension, especially in an SUV, they would hardly slow you down, especially if the car is stolen and you don't care about long term life of the car.

You seem to have an answer for everything from traffic lights to topes and to how Mexico should run it's country for a foreigner like you here, where you are ONLY a guest. Speed bumps are "necessary" because most drivers here seem to have contempt for traffic control signs. Aggressive, persistent police control of traffic aided by radar guns would be less damaging to vehicles than bumps. New York found, a while back, that controlling small crimes helped reduce the incidence of bigger crimes. Maybe it could do the same here.
