It's not y'all, it's the folks who have been banned from TOB that are pissed enough to rant and rave. Personally I'm glad TOB is there to deal with the more mundane and censored aspects of life lakeside. As to giving a damn, I doubt most do.Mainecoons wrote:What makes even less sense is the constant obsessing and bitching about TOB here. Why do y'all give a damn?

Dawg your comments on LCS are a little bit out of date. It has a younger
person running it and he is making changes and improving the physical
plant as fast as money and volunteers allow. Many of us have been
updating the computer network, computers, and operating system on both
LCS areas and the Wilkes center. They are in the middle of getting the
jungle in control. The library has never been better! Great selection of
DVD's to rent. The magazine room has been restored and I am in the
process of updating it. Many younger folks are joining LCS. Now I agree
we have many older folks playing cards as you say but we also have
younger folks working on other projects. All things evolve as you know
but I doubt LCS will die just change.

Zed's right. LCS ain't what it used to be. It's changing and growing with the times. Since some of its critics haven't set foot in there for years.......they speak of the past.
BTW, Zed........your personal contribution of your time is part of the improvements. Thanks.
And while we're talking about it.........isn't it healthier for people to be interacting with others in a card game than sitting home in front of the telly with maybe a drink or two or five to keep them company? Personally, card games aren't my pleasure.......but others seem to be having a good time. So, good for LCS for providing its various activities.

OK, Zed, I´ll buy that as, after all, Dawg has not set foot in there for about ten years after discerning, back then, that the club was a cliquish anachronism in those days which I believe is an assessment with which you would agree. I am pleased to see that new people are attempting to pump new life in what had become a virtually moribund shadow of what Neil James and others had envisioned. The best of luck to you.
I hope that this new direction the LCS is taking willl help people like gringal who, according to her post comng after yours, can be torn from in front of the televison and tequila bottle even if the alternative is card games and dominoes with old farts at the LCS. Maybe people like gringal can be given volunteer duties to keep them busy. Perhaps spending the day with date returned stamps in the library.
Dawg is not interested in re-joining. Americans like to join but one of us is French and the French don´t like to join. When we first moved to San Cristóbal de Las Casas in 2006, the few U.S. and Canadian extranjeros living there tried to induce us to join their Amigos de San Cristóbal fraternity which buys local happiness with U.S. Dollars given to local civic organizations. Based upon our experience with the LCS, among other things, we declined. We decided to join the larger Italian extranjero club because many of them own pizzerias which are abundant down there. On must decide what is most important in life for oneself.
