It was brought to my attention that their may be a local cabbie and passenger trying to lure people into the cab by pretending to know you and saying "hey lets go get some drinks"!!! I know it sounds far fetched but please be aware.

I was also given some other info as follows:

I'm not wanting to post publicly about this stuff right now. Twitter & news reports have been horrific today for our area. 5 more bodies were found in Chapala connected with last week. As of Saturday, the rumors were running rampant throughout la ribera. Rumor one: narco banners were put up in Ajijic stating not to bring in the military or they would start kidnapping the women or women & children. Government page denied banners and curfew stating that some people were trying to make them look bad. Rumors were that 2 were kidnapped in Ajijic Saturday, yesterday rumors that an entire family were kidnapped from the Chapala malecon and it was broadcast on one of the tv stations(I couldn't confirm this even though it came from a member of a family member). They said because one of the jefe of the Tala plaza had been arrested they were kidnapping to get them to release him.

Last night the twitters started and today they were pouring in. Pleading the president for help and send in the military that they are continuing to kidnap here. Today twitters tweeted that the expats can't communicate with the police and the police are corrupt, now begins the exodus of the expats.

As we were driving in from Guadalajara, 15-20 federales zoomed past us on the carretera. 2 unmarked black trucks w/a couple of dogs. I'm hoping they clean up this place!!!!!

Don't shoot the messenger.........jajajaja.

Heard this one today:

The cartels want the government to bring the army here. Although this place has little value to the cartels. the government would have to move troops from other areas, which would allow the catels to operate more freely there.

Makes perfect logical sense.

Bob - It sounds to me that most of what is posted on Twitter is a bunch of BS posted by people without facts and little else to do, who cannot wait to be the first ones there to post. Probably many young people who are addicted to social networking sites. Personally I think the Social networking sites are bullshit, just my opinion. Maybe I'm too much of an old fart.

I do believe the part about the Federales or Estatal as I did get a PM from someone who is reliable tonight.

the majority of what is posted on twitter is witnessed firsthand. it is then retweeted by others to spread the word. Just because people are young, and you don't understand their era of media, doesn't mean they are wrong.

I have heard all of the above, some from firsthand accounts.
