trip to Larado
I'm driving to Larado and was wonder about which road to take..54 through Zacatecas or 80 through San Luis Potosi. Anybody heard any news about either route lately?
Thanks Bill
Thanks Bill

Re: trip to Larado
Have never driven the route to Laredo, so no comments on that. But as far as news goes, Nuevo Laredo proper, the highway to the Columbia crossing, the highway to the Piedras Negras crossing and the Monterrey area have all been off and on hot spots in the last couple of weeks.

I drove to Laredo last week and went thru San Luis Potosi. The road that has been under construction for years is now open. We made it to Laredo in 10 hours without pushing too hard

There were 9 bodies hanging from the bridge and 14 decapitated bodies left, together with the heads, in front of the city hall.espíritu del lago wrote:http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2012/05/nine-bodies-found-hanging-off-nuevo.html?m=1

"Yep, and I bet they were all gringos"
Certainly all Gringos have that "invisible protective cloak" that prevents them from being negatively affected by any of these cartel actions! I guess that our Gringo friend who was truckjacked in that general area losing everything other than the clothes on his back must have been in too much of a hurry when getting organized that morning in Laredo to allow his cloak to fully attach. He lives in Michoacán, is fluent in Spanish and had been driving to or from the border for 13 years on business. His statement: "I will never make that drive again until such time as this BS is over with!

Why does everyone always go to the racist thing...
His point was obviously about old white guys not being the target of the people doing these dastardly deeds ...
I'm sure if U were white and happened to be moving a lot of Meth across the line...
U might find yourself hanging under a bridge as well....

Neil, give it a break, I have made`this trip 3`times this year, and find your input offensive....drive at the wrong time....after 8 pm you run the risk.....Neil you are the number 3 poster on this board, live in New Mexico....give your input a rest, spend more times on other boards, I know you lived here....but you continue to inject ....BS.....When you come back....all is welcome

Re: trip to Larado
Another of Jim W's fictional accounts after the cork comes out of the bottle? I don't dispute you having driven to the Arizona border 3 times in 2012 but this is Laredo, Texas. Did I ever say don't drive this route? It is prudent for someone making the trip to be aware of recent events and then make their own decision depending on their own tolerance level. Based upon your prior objections to any news report links posted in Spanish, it isn't hard to figure out why you wouldn't or couldn't be bothered to inform yourself unless they were in English.
As for your "offensive comment", put that in a bowl and smoke it.

Re: trip to Larado
Just in time for fun,, they just discovered 20 some bodies there a few hanging under a bridge and the others torured and decapitated in a van, It just never quits. All of that in Nuevo Laredo .
On of the marco manta claims that the 9 people who ere hanged were responsable for " heating up the plaza" and attracting armed forces. I am sure that 5 men and 4 women hanging from a bridge did not attract any attention...

Re: trip to Larado
These postings are so much total bullsh*t. Why would any of you care about a bunch of druggie cartel criminals hung in Mexico. Just standard fare in the drug war. Who cares! When are some of you GD STUPID posters going to stop posting this bullsh*t that doesn't affect Gringos living here or tourists? Go find something else to do with your lives and get a life.

Smart move Postman, Be vigelant, I usually push the risk limit, however I try to cross the border on Sunday morning 6:30-7:00am traffic is light, the Mexican border guys, are hung over, the druggies are recovering from party night.
If you don't have your vehicle permit yet.....Order on line and you won't have to waste time @ the border.....it will cost you approx. $35.00 extra, but you won't have to stop to get your permit.
If you need more info on doing this, PM Intercasa on this board under legal..
