Russet Potatoes
In my 4 months at Lakeside I have yet to come across a real Russet potato.
Yes I know a few restaurants like The Early Bird and Bruno's serves Russets but I really crave a good old baked potato with butter and sour cream at my home.
Rumor has it Super Lake carries them occasionally but I haven't come across them.
Does anyone know where I can buy a bag?????
Thanks

The cook @ my favorite fishing spot....Aguamilpa boils Mexican grown potato's in water and canola oil ......when done they are not pulpy and are as close as you can get to a russet....except for the thin skins. For hash browns, try Delicias .....if you like them you can buy them @ Costco. They are dried russets....simply rehydrate and cook em the way you like em.
We also bring back a 10 lb. bag of russets 3 to 4 times per year from AZ. Usually put them under the back seat in the SUV.....when checked...never an issue.

Re: Russet Potatoes
Mazatlan is the only place I've seen baked potatoes as street food. Mexican potatoes but baked in tinfoil. They cut them open and you can add a number of extras; meat bits, celantro, onions and creama. Very good
Re: Russet Potatoes
Pancho carries them from October thru New Year's.

Re: Russet Potatoes
Try this; it’s not anything like a good baked potato but good never the less, a great dish. Scrub potatoes, cut into about 1 ½ inch cubes, rub with olive oil, salt & pepper to taste and a small bit of chopped up rosemary. Spread out on a cookie sheet try to keep it to a single layer. Bake in a 350 degree oven until potatoes somewhat crispy/chewy on the outside and done on the inside. Mmmmm

I read somewhere, on one of these boards, they were "illegal", "contraband", etc., .... when they seem to be in several places around the area.

Re: Russet Potatoes
They are neither. There's a high import duty on US russets, these come from Sonora.

Yikes! We raised our own beef for 25 years before coming here. The only beef we eat here comes from Costco and even that is very seldom.

Re: Russet Potatoes
there ia absolutely nothing wrong with the potatoes available here in the mercado, chapala tianguis soriana or wally world. like everywhere else ya get duds sometimes. we have never baked but we do mashed, pan fried with onion, french fries, german dumplings[sheif geschittenne kleusse{sp?}],potato salad and these labour intensive german/czech pancakes.

Re: Russet Potatoes
I know I am late posting this, but the "russet" spuds that I saw at SuperLake are NOT russets but red potatoes covered in brown dirt. I rubbed and rubbed until I got past the dirt and saw the red skin. A Mexican woman next to me scratched one with her fingernail and again the red skin. Either Pancho is pulling the wool over our eyes or his suppliers at the Abastos are fooling Pancho. Sorry--I won't pay 29 pesos for red spuds.
BTW--I was hungry for those little red potatoes a couple of months ago. Checked the ones that Pancho sells and they were white spuds with red dye on them. What's up with that?????

Re: Russet Potatoes
Yup they are red not Russet/Idaho potatoes!
Go to the Weds Tianguis.
First fruit and vegetable seller on the left going South just north of the cross street (Camino Real I think) sells real Russets.
Just leave some for me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Russet Potatoes
You can also get russets at the store next to the Pechugon chicken shop and in the green fronted store on the Caraterra in the block above Colon. They both always have them.
