Immersion
Our Spanish is not much beyond buenos dias, gracias and huevos rancheros. Are there any immersion Spanish schools in the area? I know it's going to be tough so we need all the help we can get.

Re: Immersion
The basic answer is yes althought I don't know the details. I see ads in the papers for a school in Chapala and some in Guadalajara.

Re: Immersion
Hi Holly,
Chompin at the bit to get down here? We went to a school called Harvest Language School in Guadalajara. They had a branch out here in San Antonio that some local expats here attended and it's intense. Google them, it'll show up. They'll cater a program with vocabulary to fit your employment too.
Remember that it depends on the type of person you are. I'm not a book learner but practical application learner. While my husband flourished and had to have a higher level course to adapt his learning abilities, I stressed at the entry level, even after 3 semesters in jr college before arriving. After a semester, my husband graduated and I opted to learn at home hanging out with Mexican friends. Well, my Mexican friends were all youth. So, I learned a very youthful vocabulary, It was fun for a season.
Now we live here lakeside fulltime and I don't hang out nearly as much to practice and learn more, it's really little by little. For the first 4 years, we lived in Guadalajara where there aren't Americans visible like they are here lakeside. We had nationals in our house almost everyday. One guy lived with us for 2 years. He gave guitar lessons and Spanish lessons to our sons and talked to me everyday. That's what I call full immersion. People ask us all the time why we speak so well? Now you know why. Here lakeside, you don't have to get it all down because the MXs cater to you. But if you're doing business, you'll be taken advantage of unless you get a really good grasp of it. Can you carry a tune? It'll help you a lot!
buena suerte!
