Daylight savings time Sunday
Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour before you hit the hay Saturday night.

Re: Daylight savings time Sunday
In Chiapas we were thinking of turning our calendars forward from the 19th Century to the 21st Century until we remembered that the Maya calendar ends in 2012 when some predict the end of the world so we´ll settle for moving forward to, say,1953.
For those of you considering visiting Chiapas, keep in mind that the indigenous communities, which make up a significant part of the total population there, refuse to observe daylight savings time and insist on staying on what they refer to as "God´s time" or what the rest of you may refer to as "standard time". Not that it matters since nobody down there knows or cares what time it is anyway.
We´ll be heading down to either Toniná or Palenque for the end-of-the-world festivities and anticipate quite a sound & light extravaganza. Any of you planning to join us for the big bash in Chiapas had best reserve a place to stay ASAP even for the days after the world is supposed to end just in case it doesn´t end on time as predicted. There will be plenty of pox on hand to assuage your feelings of disappointment at still being here if the apocalypse faills to materialize.

About time, Mexico is 3 weeks behind the US. We're tired of eating 1 hour early to watch our 7 PM programs at 6 PM. I don't know Mexico's reason for not changing when the US does?

Mexico was smart enough not to make the change in 2005 when President Bush engineered the changing of the law. Arizona and Hawaii are two States that do not have DST.

We need DST like we need a hole in the head. I'm with the folks in Chiapas.

President Bush engineered the changing law? Huh? The US has always had DST.

Not always. I believe it was first instituted under the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration during WWII. How do I know this? Because my dad used to hate it and forever thereafter referred to the whole deal as "God's time" and "Roosevelt's time".
Personally, I takes me about a week to get my body and brain to go along with it. I hate it, too.

John:
Yes, the US had DST but Bush was the one who engineered changing the start and stop dates supposedly to save energy. Mexico still follows the former schedule as they have been since 1996.

And he did this without Congress approving it? Otherwise, it would be more correct to describe it as just more Federal government meddling.
