Security Underwear
For those looking for a more secure way to carry money and credit cards when out moving around, Clever Travel Companion has introduced a new option - underwear with zippered pockets:

Re: Security Underwear
I recall 20 years ago, I was shopping for my little boy at Sears.... In the Boys Department , I found a bin full of underware with sports team crests... I purchased a half dozen pair of boys briefs with Montreal Canadiens Crest....
It's not that we were ever big Montreal fans... in fact.... I recall thinking
" If the Boy has to leave a skid mark on something... this should do just fine "

Re: Security Underwear
It will be a cold day before we spend $24.90/$34.90 on an individual piece of underwear. Purchasing enough for a 14 or 21 day trip would severely affect the travel budget and we prefer not having to deal with doing laundry while traveling. And, yes I do change my underwear every day!

Re: Security Underwear
We have good friends who are in their 80's now. Up until 5 years ago, they were still travelling the world and loved getting to "whatever continent" on a freighter.
Their mantra for travel each: two pairs of shorts, two pairs of jeans, two t-shirts, two pair of socks, one pair of shoes....and two pair of underwear. That's all folks. They slept starkers because whatever they had worn that day was washed and was drying.
Don't think I could travel that way but I admired them for travelling light. Takes backpacking to a whole new level.

Re: Security Underwear
A money belt is sure a lot cheaper that those underduds with pockets.
I like Ferret's thread about her light traveling friends.
Sleeping starkers saves buying p.j.'s. Thrifty, too.

Re: Security Underwear
Cute idea, but pricey. What we use is vests with inside zippered pockets, handy and useful all the time.
@gringal, where's Ferret's thread on her light traveling friends, I could use a few lessons in that area.
cheers

Re: Security Underwear
O.K. folk here is an alternative. Take a child’s sock stuff it with, let’s say $2K USD and pin it inside your pant/shorts etc. (right side) and if someone frisks you tell them it’s your colostomy bag or baño de basura.

Re: Security Underwear
I sleep starkers even when I'm not traveling, less resticting and more comfy, now if that underwear was made of Kevlar I could see paying those prices.

Re: Security Underwear
Ooop's already caught it on this thread, sorry.
Personally i couldn't do the 2 of everything bit, however when I was younger I regularly did do the underwear wash on trips. Didn't work well in England where nothing dried due to the damp.

Re: Security Underwear
How about 45 pesos? Today, in the Ajijic Tiangus, I found some lovely pairs of ladies' security undies - 85% nylon, 15% spandex, choice of colour and size, with a nice roomy zippered pocket across the front. Don't laugh (well, OK, laugh then!) but I am actually considering wearing these on my next long trip. After suffering the serious inconvenience of having my credit and debit cards stolen on my last trip (not in Mexico, by the way), I intend to stash my backup card where NOBODY is going to get their hands on it without my knowledge!CheenaGringo wrote:It will be a cold day before we spend $24.90/$34.90 on an individual piece of underwear.

Re: Security Underwear
Hate to give away all my trade secrets (would like to write a book) but take a child’s sock, stash your money in it and with a diaper pin, pin it to the band at the top of your underwear (right side). At our age if anyone frisks you just tell them it’s your colostomy bag (baño basura) and pretty much that’s it.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to by “bits” but I’m pretty sure I’m referring to “shit”. JaJaJa!!!
Gee, I didn’t realize I’m a poet.

How about using that iron on stuff to attach a little pocket wherever you need it?

Re: Security Underwear
This underwear seller was part way down on the right hand side (west side). Not the first undie seller, maybe the second? I haven't seen this particular style before - maybe they are also in Chapala and Jocotepec, where they will probably be cheaper.

Re: Security Underwear
Putting a zippered pocket into the underwear you already own is not at all difficult. Well, unless you don't know how to sew.
zippers are super cheap here, too! Like $1 to 10 pesos.
