Stereo repair
I need to find someone who can fix a stereo problem. I've got a small but expensive bookshelf size unit with two separate speakers. Worked perfectly, and still has the FM and tape playing function working fine, BUT now refuses to either play CD's or open and close the CD drawers. I hate to give up on it since it has great sound, but does anyone know someone around lakeside who fixes these things? Most grateful for a reference.

There is a shop in Jocotepec called Teleservicio Kevin, he can fix anything electrical. His shop is on the left just before you get to the first light.
shop 387 763 3109
Casa 387 763 0877
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Martygraw.
Now, here's the mystery for today. Plugged the sucker in this morning, punched the buttons and it WORKED. The electron fairy snuck in during the night, I guess. Go figure.
I'm sure it won't last, though.

There is a shop in Riberas, not sure exactly where, but it is across from the School for the Deaf Thrift Shop. If you see the Thrift Shop, you'll find this place. I am told that he makes the repairs to non working stuff donated to the thrift shop.

Re: Stereo repair
Gringal, these things use software that is usually called "firmware." For example, I had a Bose 3-2-1 installed in my RV that used to periodically do what you described here. The solution was to "reboot" it by disconnecting it from all power. Later, Bose came out with an update to the firmware that fixed the problem. They sent me an install disk which I put in like a normal CD and it proceeded to do the update.
If you have an older Bose unit of that type, it may need this update. Otherwise, just try the total power disconnect when it happens.

Re: Stereo repair
Thanks, all. I'm keeping the info. in a file..........for the next time.
Now, here's a mystery. We did the unplug, took the set and set it on the storage room table, tried it again, gave up and left it alone to consider its sins. Yesterday afternoon, my husband (always the hopeful type) turned it on and it's working perfectly.
There are elves who sneak in during the night and do this, just to drive us nuts.

Re: Stereo repair
If this is a Bose product and as MC suggested, it needs a firmware update - you can find updates @:
http://worldwide.bose.com/downloads/en/web/product_selection/page.html
While MC used a disc, it can be updated from your computer.

Re: Stereo repair
So today it quit working right again. Sigh.
It's not a Bose product. It's a Sharp. Good sound, so I'd like to keep it..

Re: Stereo repair
Didn't do it yet. I'm enjoying a renewed acquaintance with my tape collection.
Inertia is all. Will report when we around to it.
