I'm with Zed. Next thing, your Facebook password will be discreetly tattooed in the crack between your cheeks. That way, when you bend over for your prospective employer, ......oh, never mind.

G-gal... you do have a way with words. Just too, too well said.
I don't understand why anyone would want the whole world out there to know everything they were thinking.
Just look at how politicians are haunted by something they said thirty years ago, and probably just happened to blurt out in a moment of drunken excess at a frat party.
That said... look what has happened in the Middle East because people were able to communicate on Twitter. A far cry from the idiot father-daughter spat that started this thread.
Personally... I spend too much time on this computer as it is. We do our "social networking" in person. It is so much more satisfying to be able to read all the cues during a conversation. Lizzy

Makes a helluva difference when you're face to face with someone when he or she says "I don't know about so-and-so". Does it ever!
And speaking of "I don't know.....", I don't know why someone would want the equivalent of a teenager's diary haunting them for the rest of their lives, especially after they reach 25 and realize their dad wasn't so awful after all.

I thought that when I chose to use the word, demeanor, it wouldn't indicate looks. I went to check the definition this AM and found: http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/demeanor or http://vocabulary-vocabulary.com/dictionary/demeanor.php
Certainly didn't intend to typecast the guy because of his looks!

No sweat. I just thought it was funny not illogical or offensive in any way. It made me think what did we look like in the old days all standing around
the almighty computer giving worship to the Byte Gods drinking vasts amount of coffee and doughnuts. In the old days Coffee and doughnuts were
free for the 9am break. Just Coffee for the 3pm. It was a very good time to be a computer geek. The stories I can tell...should write a book but not
sure anyone would care anymore. Best book if you are interested would be the out of print "Soul of the new machine" about one of the big computer
companies that did not survivie.

Ah, "demeanor". A strange word, when broken down.
One of the companies that didn't last used to provide all manner of goodies to the computer workers. Some geeks created exotic tents, complete with incense, in their workspace. Pizza, and many other enticements, was free. Long hair, beards and beads were normal business attire. They kept these guys outta sight. The guy in the photo would fit right in to the geek staff.

i cant imagine why any adult would have face book. if you have email, then why have a page on a corporate web-sight? if jobs may be dependent on this info, i would suppose the college students would know better. i never went on a social network site, i do not see the point. i find it very creepy.

OK Laugh out LOUD!!! I kinda get your thought point however "What are we suppose to look like??" Lets find out if I resemble that remark and remember we are
in our third generation of computer geeks and each generation looks different. The first ones were in black slacks, shoes, and pants with a white shirt short hair
and a pocket protector to keep his wife happy. Industry geeks tended to look a little different than university geeks who tended to be math guys in the old days
as computer science only existed as courses in the Math Department. In those days computers were so expensive that computer operators made as much money
or more as the programmers and analysts. Now computer operator is as obsolute as a Buggy whip maker.
So what does a geek (not a nerd) look like ?? This could be fun!!!!
P.S. Oh yea I forgot the pre calculater period when points were added having a slide rule hanging down your side just like a colt 44 in the holster and we use to
compare sliderules:-)

Reminds me when my sister-in-law stated to me “I know he doesn’t look like the kind of guy I would marry” and all could say was I didn’t know there were specific looks for the people we should marry. She was a “looker” with probably an IQ of 65. (Natural blond, true.)

Although she might not have been familiar with the word itself, your sister-in-law was probably speaking of your brother's "demeanor"... ie., the way he presented himself... which could indicate that she just might have been brighter than you believed her to be.
Remember.. she is or was an example of your brother's fine taste.
By the way, are they by any chance still married? Lizzy

My impression was she just thought she was so much better looking and she was, but those are things perhaps one should keep to themselves. Yes, they are still together after28 years. I didn’t say she is a bad person just not the brightest bulb in our family package. (and she’s still not but we all like her) You know, being smart is not everything, not even close.

I don't claim to know about French parenting styles, but when we visited there, we were amazed at how quietly well behaved the children were. They didn't seem at all unhappy about it, either. In restaurants, no uproar; no screaming tantrums to ruin everyone else's dining experience. Nice.
Those French..........they know something others could learn from.

The French Parenting comment came from another story in the news last week because of a recently released book called: Bringing Up Bébé

Naturally, numerous Americans were insulted that someone would suggest that the French may be more capable!

Re: Dad punishes Facebook post with 8 bullets to daughter's laptop
When we moved to the US for the first time... my mother was shocked at what a fuss and bother was raised about "Toilet Training" children. What? Toilet Training?
My Mum said we were not "Toilet Trained" and she never had a "dirty" diaper... wet, yes... soiled, no.
How was that?
About 30 minutes after we had been fed, Mum would get her book and a bedpan. She would sit in a comfy chair, put the pan in her lap, the baby on the pot, and read her book until she heard us grunt.
Then she would clean our little bottoms, put our diapers back on and off we'd go.
No diaper service, no smelly diapers to wash.
I still do not understand why American moms go through all that bother and expense. Disposable diapers are a supremely horrible solution... though they are making some corporations a lot of money. Lizzy

Day care in France is for everyone. It is part of government services so the kids learn early to be civil and how to behave. French are very civilized in many ways and
very cruel in others ways. I could live there if I had the money. Lyon is a nice place to live without the Paris behavior.

The former Marine wrote on his Facebook page that Child Protective Services officials came to his home in Stanly Co. on Saturday and interviewed him and his daughter — separately — after viewers of the video called with concerns about his actions.
He said the police also stopped by.
“The police by the way said ‘Kudos, sir,’ ” Jordan wrote. "I actually had a "thank you" from an entire detectives squad. And another police officer is using it in a positive manner in his presentation for the school system. How’s about those apples? Didn’t expect THAT when you called the cops did you?”

I cannot understand why someone would call the children welfare folks and police when no crime was committed. People are worried because someone shot a gun at
a laptop???? In fact his laptop. Should have never let them on the property and asked where the warrant was. If it is legal to shoot a gun in the location where
the laptop was shot why all the fuss??? Frankly I have severe negative feeling towards the viewers who called the state/police. No abuse here. No crime here. No
reason for anyone to show up at there house. We have laws rules and regulation to protect us from the so called viewers who called. Why were the rules followed?
Firing a gun on private property is not against the law in rural areas.

Some people seem to find it impossible to MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS, and they stretch the concept of "abuse" beyond any reasonable limit.
No wonder the cops said "Kudos".
