driving and parking in the lake chapala area
canuckbob, i really like the picture you now have at the top of the webboard of a fairly typical street in ajijic. gives folks who don't live here a good idea of how narrow the streets can be and why having a large vehicle is not conducive to driving OR to parking. friends that visit here for the first time always ask me "this is a one-way street; right?" when we're on a pretty narrow street somewhere. and usually the answer is, "no, it's a two-way street with parking on one side."

Please point out to them how the a largest vehicles never park close to the curb.

and, david, while not parking close to the curb, the largest vehicles also seem to always park at the corner which makes trying to turn into the street very difficult if not impossible.

You're absolutely right! Look at the picture, the red Jeep is parked close to the corner and away from the curb! At least at this time of year it's not so bad, the snowbirds have taken their vans NOB.

If you think that is tight check this out. It is a 48' tour bus that came down Colon and was trying to turn right onto Hidalgo. We watched him try for about 30 minutes and then had to leave. Never did find out how he did it.

Aye yiy yi! I was stuck behind him the whole time, about 3 cars back. What a circus! He jockeyed back and forth until he finally made it. Of course there was a big pickup in the middle of the block he turned on to so he had to wait as others blew their horns until the truck driver showed up!

We have lived here for 7 years and drive 2 cars. The one we use most for everyday is a 2006 Hyundai Accent, we bought this car new in Canada drove it here, and it will never leave. Great little car. The second car is a Ford Freestar that we use for going back and forth to Canada, and when we have company and travel multi days from home. We do have some idiots that come down here truing to make a statement with their 250s, 2500s hummers ect, but they soon learn, and like Dave say's, most of these jerks park 2 ft from the curb.

We also have two cars; a 2004 VW Passat wagon for traveling and going to Guadalajara. For around lakeside we use our 2006 Smart For2. I can always find 1/2 a parking space!

That's actually my buddy, Stan. I have some video of this event as well. During the video a bread truck comes flying around the corner and misses Stan by inches........

Now that's funny. Wow, how perceptive, good catch.

Looks like the bus already modified the street sign a little.
