Article making the rounds
This article is making the rounds in the Canadian newspapers this week. It was in the Vancouver Sun and the Globe & Mail (I think). Needless to say I have been hearing non-stop about it. The ironic part is there were 5 unrelated shootings in the Vancouver suburbs on the 25th, 26th & 27th that didn't even get a full page spread........

Bob- Why don't you ask that reporter to interview Elvis Stojko? I know that anything he had to say would be gospel with my Mother.

Bob:
That exact article or slightly modified versions have been making the rounds being published all over the country by newspapers looking for a filler.

Hey Bob, why don't you send in a letter to the editor pointing this out?

Re: Article making the rounds
bob, do you have a link to the 5 shootings? i think the reason for the article was to show that older americans were aggressive, in mexico. that alone makes interesting news. also who were the shootings (in canada) directed too? were they muggings? home invasions w/robbery? or ghetto inside jobs? you also need to include more info to make a point.

Re: Article making the rounds
All the shootings (in Vancouver suburbs) were apparently unrelated. One was a grocery store clerk (robbery), one was domestic and the others look possibly drug related. On the news tonight they just found another critically injured, badly beaten guy in his van in the same general area as all the shootings.
Google "Vancouver Sun" if you want to read about any of these events. I wasn't trying to make any point other than the fact the "Violence in Mexico" gets more press up here than the local crap and yes I know this article (or facsimile) has been circulating all over NA. It was first brought to my attention a couple of weeks ago when it appeared in a Florida newspaper.

Forget it. I have actually done this with two previous sensationalized articles. One complaint to the reporter and one to the editor. Response: zero.

Re: Article making the rounds
bob, of the 5 shootings, only the grocery clerk is somewhat related. the other 4 were drug jobs. not assault upon the normal citizens. (as we have here). do the news papers report drug wars which go on in canada? do you think the emphasis is on mexico, because guadalajara has more drug violence than vancouver? (if in reality there IS in more drug war here, in that case the journalism is not exaggerated). i did not like the article, his credentials do not impress me. in a weird way it was a real estate "sell" in disguise. (& far too much drama).

Re: Article making the rounds
The newspapers NOB only report a very, very small fraction of the crimes that happen on a daily basis. In fact the mayor of the municipality where a few of the latest shootings took place was very quick to come forward and ensure everyone that the place was still very safe, etc, etc, etc.............next day there were two more shootings and a severe beating.
The point being that this same crap happens all over, not just Lake Chapala, Mexico........
