One has to give scam artists an A for creative ways to separate people from their money! While I would guess that this scam has been around for some time, I hadn't read anything about it prior to this story:

That rental scam was rampant during the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. There was also a large ticket scam where people I knew lost thousands of dollars on the Gold Medal Hockey game.
