Two GDL scams you may or may not know about.
#1. My ex came down and needed a wheelchair. When she was at the limit-line after exiting customs, she was told she needed to pay US$20. She said she was told the wheelchair was free. The attendant told her the chair use was free but pushing her was $20. She gave $10.00 and I came up and she asked me to borrow $10.00 and told me why. I looked at the pusher and tried to take the $10 from his hand but he turned and quickly walked away. Adding insult to injury, her carry-on was taken from her when entering the plain, against her will, and rifled for all her cash.
#2.Went to taxi booth and said Chapala. $420.00. I said, "Did the price go up?" "yes." I found that was B.S. Next time I was told $420.00 I simply said (in Spanish) $400 and gave him $500 and got $100 back.
One time I was told $400 for 1 person and $420 for two people. I smiled and gave him $400 and we went our way.
"Fool me once, shame, shame on you; fool me twice, shame, shame on me."

What happened to your ex was shameful and total B.S. A few months ago my husband and I flew from GDL to Cancun. I use a walking cane. After exiting the vehicle at the GDL airport an airport employee came and asked if I needed a wheelchair. I said No because I was embarassed to be seen in a wheelchair. Hubby said Yes and I am glad that he did. We were taken to the front of the line and then wheeled to the gate. When it was time to board the flight the employee came back and wheeled me to the door to get on the flight. An attendent said that if I could not walk to the airplane they would provide another way to get me on board. Upon arriving in Cancun we received the same courteous treatment. Back in GDL a few days later---same treatment. So sorry for your ex.

I might have had the same wheelchair pusher, he met me coming off the plane, I had asked United for a wheelchair, due to an ankle accident.
All seemed normal, and I had every intention of giving the guy a tip. However, in a low voice he said that he didn't get paid for this service, and needed the money.
Fortunately I had just enough pesos for Taxi fare, and told him that the tip was the best I could do. He could see that further entreaties would be pointless, and asked me to sign his list of wheelchair clients. This proves he was on a payroll. Shameless scammer.

A question comes to mind when checking in and asking for the wheel chair....which was probably already ordered at the time of ticket procurement.
Is there a charge for the service?

No there is not a charge for wheel chairs. I fly Volaris a lot and when you buy a ticket you can check a box to ask for a wheel chair and it says $0.00 charge. I find I am on a list and they ask me when I check in. I have never been asked for money, but I always tip.

Agree with "simpsca" my wheelchair was pre-arranged with United airlines. It was ordered at the time of booking.
I wonder what U.A. would think of this scam; but now you've been alerted you'll be ready for the sneaky spivs.
"Knowledge is power" hehe.

I fly a lot and usually ask for a wheelchair. It's in my record as well. The attendants work for companies that contract with the airlines, not directly for the airlines. They really earn very little and, like waitstaff at restaurants, depend on tips. The only time I was told up front i needed to "pay" for service once he got me to my driver, was in the Guadalajara Airport... but he wouldn't have refused service.

My ex was told the wheelchair was free, but she needed to pay US$20 for being pushed at immigration to the "stop" line after exiting customs.
This was just a blatent lie and ripping off someone who needed help.

Re: Two GDL scams you may or may not know about.
Another scam technique- I was approached recently by a young man outfitted as though an airport employee. He asked if I had my immigration form ready & I wasn't sure what form he was another cam.... recently I was approached by a young Mexican man dressed like an employee. He asked if I had my immigration form ready. I wasn't sure what he meant & answered no. turns out he was talking about the form given by the stewardess on board flights & he offered me one from a stack in his, pocket & offered to help me complete the form for $100 pesos. I scolded him , in Spanish, for targeting me as an older woman gringo for a pure scam. I found a guard & reported what happened. The guard left & returned with a similarly dressed mature guy who reportedly is the manager for these 'free lancers' who apologized for the incident. They are not actually airline or airport employees . I don't know what legitimate services they offer

It all sounds fishy as one only gets to customs after having passed thru IMN at the airport..Sounds like more BS when she reports that someone riffled thru her carry on bag and took her $$..Wake up!!
