The Burro Cart (Welcome Wagon)
It seems most regulars on this board are happy living in paradise and more than willing to share their experiences and knowledge. It also seems there are a lot of newbees on their first exploratory visit or retiring and moving here sight unseen. Either way they find themselves in a foreign land and usually without a friend or someone to contact for a quick answer to a burning question. It's a pretty big deal for all but the most intrepid souls.
Looking back to a recent example of someone who did it right: Ol' Juanrey did, he took the initative, posting and contacting several of us in PM's saying something like; My wife and I will be lakeside from ______ to ________ and would really like to meet you and pick your brain. Could we meet at a convenient place and time? Sure, were the responses. After their visit Juanrey posted a detailed review, a fact filled insight that could only happen by meeting folks and getting involved. Now if Juanrey and his wife decide to move lakeside they are plugged in and have a good idea which area they like the best.
So anyway, how about this: If you're a lakeside resident and like to meet new people occasionally, share your knowledge and/or a margarita or two, post your screen name to this thread and the area where you live.
To the first time visitors: Welcome to lakeside. 8)
Oncesubtle, (Bob) Candace and I live in Chapala centro.

Re: The Burro Cart (Welcome Wagon)
What a great idea, way to go Roof Bob.
I will tell you it was / is very helpful being able to meet people on our first trip down and I look forward to meeting all that are willing on our next trip in August.
For those that haven't yet been down, being able to meet some of the people who live Lakeside and have a beer and pick their brains is the only way to go.
My thanks to those I had the pleasure of meeting on my first trip, and looking forward to meeting those that post to this thread on our next trip in August.
Muchas Gracias

I just got here but I'm game especially if they have dogs. Mine loves other dogs & needs some playmates. I'll be getting a car via Spencer at S&S 5/25.

Great idea Bob. I know meeting you and Candace on our first trip down was definately one of the reasons we keep coming back and one of the reasons why we'll be staying down permanent in a couple of years. You guys have become good friends. Thank you.

Only been in Jocotepec since October and before that 5 years on the beach so I'm only qualified to give tours via Google Maps - street views
Chapala, Ja, Mexico
Both the beach and Chapala are OK by me

Re: The Burro Cart (Welcome Wagon)
Well, I see the old Burro Cart idea hasn't had any action for a couple months, so I think it is time to reinvigorate it. Newbies to the board have to be able to see more than our musings on Sex, Politics & Religion.
So, I would like to take some folks up on their willingness to meet with persons who are interested in moving Lakeside and have a margarita and share their experiences and thoughts.
Wife and I are coming back down, to see the rainy season and escape some of this Texas heat. We're going to be down mid-August nearly to the end of August and we would like to meet some of you folks.
We could do it as a large group, or smaller groups, whatever works. But I think RoofBob had a good idea, and I'd like to take some of you up on it.
You can PM me, or you can post, either way is fine with me.
Hope to meet a bunch of you in person on this trip.
And maybe we could continue the discussion about Religion that got a bunch of interest a few weeks back.
Juan

Re: The Burro Cart (Welcome Wagon)
I'll be waiting to hear your thoughts on the "rainy season" Juan. We have yet to experience it.
If I remember correctly a further discussion on religion might require some "mood" enhancers????

JuanRey and anyone else is welcome to discuss religion, politics and sex with their dogs at Casa Luna. Bring your own mood enhancers....

Sex with dogs is not required I had hoped to imply that dogs are welcome to visit. They're usually better behaved than the people....lunateak wrote:JuanRey and anyone else is welcome to discuss religion, politics and sex with their dogs at Casa Luna. Bring your own mood enhancers....

Glad you clarified that, I was starting to get just a tad bit nervous.

Anyone wearing a Tilley "not silly" hat is usually pretty unflapable. Glad to clarify!

Re: The Burro Cart (Welcome Wagon)
This is a great idea that you have going at Lakeside.
When I was researching Mexico back in '95, there were a few books and definitely no internet forums. We've come a LOOOONG way baby!
Believe it or not, we flagged down foreign plated cars and asked questions; hung out in the local plaza and asked questions; went out to lunch and breakfast and asked questions. I think people started crossing to the other side of the street when they saw us coming..."OMG, there's those people that ask questions!"
There are no questions that are too silly to ask...only silly people who don't want to ask them.
Have fun guys...it's a brand new learning experience!

Coming down next week to see what the "rainy season" is all about.
We came down for our 1st trip in April, the "hot season" and it hadn't rained in 85 days.
Since everyone says you need to visit all the seasons, we decided to get out of the heat and see what the rainy season is all about.
Last trip was to see it all. We did Guad, Costco, Sam's and Walmart, Guad downtown, Tonala, Mazamitla, and just were your basic tourists.
This trip is different, we're going to rent an apartment and try to see what living Lakeside is all about.
Since we are contemplating moving down sometime next year, we're really interested in getting as many perspectives as we can from you folks who have been down that trail before and gain your insights.
So, if there are any of you out there who are interested in having a cerveza or a tequila and just shooting the sh*t about your experiences, I'm game.
Send me a pm and we'll set something up.
Last trip was great, and we're really looking forward to this one too.
John
I'm a big believer that there is plenty of room in my life for all sorts of people and that is why I am active in more than one board. I hope no one takes it personal, I've met some interesting people on this board and will continue to read and post, but I also will be helping Pedro and his board.
