Tourist Tax Aeromexico Flights

Tourist Tax Aeromexico Flights
When I fly between US and MX I generally use US carriers and I know how to either (depending on airline)
1. Not pay the tourist tax upfront by saying I am a permanent resident of MX, or,
2. Apply for a refund online after the fact (usually takes less than a week credited back to my cc).
I am currently looking at booking Aeromexico from GDL to Madrid and am not sure if and when in the ticketing process I can say I am a resident of MX and avoid paying this tax (runs about 35 bucks USD per person). I took this same flight a few years ago and frankly don't remember what or how I did it.
Anyone know if there's a way to get out of paying it upfront?
If it's not possible to avoid it upfront, has anyone successfully had it refunded after the trip? I have heard that Volaris won't refund it or at least not readily, but wondering if Aeromexico is easier to deal with when it comes to this tax.

Re: Tourist Tax Aeromexico Flights
I have flown quite a few Aeroméxico flights and haven't ever seen anywhere, when booking online, to avoid this tax. Although I haven't noticed being charged it either.

I played around with the AM booking site and the price did change when I changed my country of residence from Mexico to Canada. It went up $100 USD on the round trip. So, it automatically eliminates this tax when you put Mexico as your country of residence.
