What amazed me the most was that even in Seattle where it is quite cool, there are hundreds of fans for sale in many stores. Yet up here where it is quite cool out, I haven't seen one fan in the grocery carts for example going to the stores and then being purchased. These fans were very low priced and would be selling like mad down south, lakeside.

What big stores put out for sale has nothing to do with what the local weather is like or what people are buying. If it's late spring in North America, the fans and other summer gear gets shipped and displayed, regardless of whether you're in Maimi or Seattle.
Once on a road trip to Mexico from Canada in January we stopped at a Kmart in southern California to buy some flipflops. It was about 80F degrees out.
They told us they didn't carry flipflops at that time of year because it was "out of season".

Seasonal items sell out quickly once the weather turns. For example, I was a chemical salesman in my past life in an area in VA that was not prone to getting snow, but when we did get it it was a big one, 8 to 10 inches. Our phones would ring off the hook once the snow flakes started falling and we would sell out the warehouse in a couple of hours as the snow kept falling. Nobody would buy it if there was not any snow falling.

I have never laughed so hard when Home Depot made it's first foray into Queretaro by buying one of the local home improvement stores. A whole aisle filled with Thompson's Water Seal for wood decks. Whuh?

I see asphalt shingles, conventional gutter systems, etc at the HD in Guadalajara yet I have never seen this type of roof anywhere in Mexico. Go figure.......
