Wonder how much those luxury hotels mentioned paid to have themselves promoted. Meanwhile in Sayulita, construction of multistory hotels, with no urban planning, an infrastructure which can't support the number of tourists, (outrageous traffic, nowhere to park, city wells running dry in April) continues unabated.
A friend who used to live here 15 years ago and just
came down on holiday started crying when she saw what this town has become.

Same here in south Texas. There are so many huge hotels with few cars parked outside. You walk into some businesses and sometimes there are more employees than customers.

Oh, there aren't more employees than tourists here in Sayulita. This town is overrun with tourists. Half of whom waddle obesely down the middle of the street, 4 abreast, talking in loud voices even though they are right next to each other, or poke along sightseeing in their rented golf carts, oblivious of the traffic they are holding up. They waste the scarce water, and leave piles of garbage behind, filled with their empty plastic water bottles and styrofoam take-out containers, and expect everyone to speak English.

Call your local narco representative. Tell him the tourist population needs culling.

Well, it's good for local business, but not for the environment, local prices, being able to get through town, find a parking spot, or having city water past Semana Santa. Had I not had the foresight to buy a lot on the outskirts of town in the relatively quiet countryside, I would have moved from here long ago. My local friends used to act like I lived at the ends of the earth, even though it's only an 8 minute drive to the centro, and I had no neighbors at all 18 years ago, but then everyone wanted to live out here and now there are houses everywhere. Thankfully no roosters, though. :-)
