Re: Shaw tv
Friends have Shaw so it’s still around. I have Clear Choice and love it. Hundreds of stations from all over the world including Canada, US, UK, etc.

Re: Shaw tv
Apparently the earlier Shaw Direct Receivers no longer work. However, the Model 800 series Shaw Direct Receivers do work. At least my 800 series receivers still work up north and I am told that they still do lakeside as well.

The 600 series Shaw Receivers still work. I have three of them in my house here in Ajijic.

Re: Shaw tv
There is an interesting article on the Shaw Direct web page about needing an upgrade for the 600 series Shaw receivers:
Network upgrade - 600 receivers
and this one too....
What happens if I don’t upgrade my satellite equipment?

Had Shaw (StarChoice) for 10 years +; price increased and programming decreased.
Cancelled and switched to a FireStick 4K and stream...more programs and no cost.

Re: Shaw tv
I just know that there is a notification page on Shaw that says that the 600 series receivers won't work anymore (I don't know when) and that you will need the 800 series. I sure hope I'm wrong, but that is what is on my Shaw screen if you turn to the correct channel. I will check later and post the channel # here, once I find it again.

Re: Shaw tv
My 600s are still working. The only reason I have Shaw is because my wife wants MSNBC. She has no patience waiting on streaming and buffeting blah blah. Yep Shaw prices keep going up and channel availability keeps diminishing.

Re: Shaw tv
I couldn't find the data I referred to above. I hope I was wrong. Most modern folks are starting to use a firestick ie the internet to stream their programing.
I guess I will have to join the younger folks and start using the internet for my TV.

Re: Shaw tv
From what I understand, 600 series that are activated on a plan continue to work, but they will no longer reactivate a 600 series. So if you have a 600 that is activated on a plan you are OK, but if you have one that isn't activated then it is a useless metal box.

Re: Shaw tv
On the first link that I posted above, it says:
"WHY UPGRADE?
Older equipment will not be compatible with the upgraded network and needs to be replaced to avoid losing access to channels in your lineup.
If you have an HDDSR 600, HDDSR 605 or HDPVR 630 in your home, you are eligible for a complimentary upgraded set-top box rental (HDDSR 800 or HDPVR 830) on a no-fee basis."
Obviously, if you are not a Canadian account holder, getting a replacement will be difficult, if not impossible.
If you read the second link that I posted above, you will see this "information":
"What happens if I don’t upgrade my satellite equipment?
If you do not have upgraded (HEVC-compatible) equipment, you will lose access to more and more channels within your Shaw Direct lineup as we upgrade our network."
If you’ve lost access to a channel due to non-compatible satellite equipment, you may see a blank screen when you try to tune to an upgraded channel, or one of the following messages:
A message informing you to upgrade your satellite equipment
“Receiver has lost satellite signal”
“You are not currently subscribed to this channel”
An alternative MAY be to purchase a receiver from E-Bay in the USA and have it authorized to your “shared” account in Lakeside. LINK - ( https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2553941.m570.l1313&_nkw=Shaw+Direct+Arris+DSR830+Dual+Tuner+Advanced+HDPVR830+HD+RECEIVER+NEW&_sacat=0 )
Michael Merryman – Ajijic Electronics ( https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057091705398 ) MAY be able to assist in doing that.
OasisCloud is partially correct...... The 600 series receivers are junk. I’m back in Canada and Shaw are replacing my 630 receiver with a new 830 (no charge) and told me to dispose of the 630 in an electronic recycling depot– they don’t want it back!
