“Armed home invasions in Ajijic, a bit after 7pm at least 3 gun toting attackers pretended to be Amazon delivery men and got into a compound with a few apartment units, hog tied residents in different units, pistol whipped them and stole their jewelry and money.  I was called and know the victims.”

Wow, that's horrible. It is quite the brazen act to break into a complex filled with an unknown number of people and possibilities to take an unknown amount of $$. It is likely they had some information ahead of time. I hope they investigate all workers that may have been on the property in the last month or so.

For those that don't have FB, this occurred in upper Ajijic near Farmacia Guadalajara. There are several complexes up that road.

I don’t recall this kind of thing ever happening around here like this. Quite brazen and frightening.

Thanks for that, CBob. I hadn’t remembered that happening in Chapala Haciendas. I asked on Spencer’s thread if everyone was ok but didn’t get an answer. The pistol whipping part is especially disturbing.

" pretending to be Amazon Delivery people"... and THAT, in a nutshell, is why I have EVERYTHING delivered to iShop and will not open my door to anyone I am not expecting. Even if I'm expecting someone, I check to see who it is before opening the door. It pays to be cautious.

Everyone should have a camera at their gate; they are cheap nowadays. Saves a lot of unnecessary steps too if your house sits back from street. Most allow you to talk/listen to the person as well.

At the very least you should have some sort of peephole or small opening you can use to ID a person before unlocking your gate.

I agree with Ferret; don't open a gate without seeing who is there, even when expecting someone.

I also have all my pkgs sent to Sol Y Luna where I have a mailbox.

Ditto to not answering the door when not expecting anyone. Then I let my 5 dogs bark at the sound of the doorbell. All packages go to my box at Handy Mail.

I am assuming that this was a "buzzer at the gate" situation where they didn't see who it was and simply buzzed in what they were led to believe was Amazon?

Just a reminder that iShop has an office in San Juan Cosala in the Hotel Grand near the entrance to Racquet Club and also there is a new DHL office in Joco just before the plaza across from the Church.

and remember to file a denuncia for a burglary or robbery with Ministerio Publico you need proof of ownership - eg receipts or pictures.......

OK, just to ease some minds, I know the facts now and this was absolutely targeted. It appears it may be a revenge act. That's all I'm going to say.

I will be surprised if there are any official reports made.

Reminds me to mantén la calma and not piss anybody off.
