Bass fishing at Agua Milpa
We finally made a bass fishing trip to Auga Milpa thanks to an invitation from Jim W. and his charming wife Debbie to join them for the ride up and stay at their favorite 'resort' on the lake.
The fishing was as billed, wide open as we caught over 40 bass up to 3 1/2 lbs. on a half day fishing trip. The lake and surrounding mountains are beautiful, the accommodations are more than adequate with stunning views and a doting family who attend to your every need.
This place reminds me of Baja in the late 60's where a sleepy little village awakes to the prospect of one day becoming major league fishing resort. It's still muy rustico with one miniature abarote a couple of way rustico restaurantes and little infrastructure but therein lies the unspoiled charm. From what I understand fishermen are now flying in from the states, the place is pretty much booked on weekends by Mexican fishermen and members of the lakeside fishing club have more than a few pictures with their catches on the walls. For Auga Milpa, these are the good old days.

You got that right Zed....4 of us are heading to Agua Milpa the 22nd-24th. For ANYONE interested, the Ajijic fishing club meets the 2nd Friday of every month @ Dona Lona restaurant @ 9:30 am for breakfast...share lies ....no charge to join....buy your own breakfast. Most of us make the trip to Lake Agua Milpa 6-8 times per year. It is approx. 3 hour drive from Chapala. Lake record is 13+ pounds. A typical 2 day fishing, 2 days lodging, boat & guide trip, food, beverage, gas, tolls, tips cost is less than 2500 pesos per person.
