Seems like it. Traffic is the worst I’ve seen in my 12+ years here though I suspect the remote workers are more likely to be in Mexico City and not with us old farts.

The time to have planned a road to reduce future traffic passed us some time ago......walking is still an option if short distances are where you are going but that is about it.

I think they need to work a deal with the Ejido and run a bypass along the bottom of the mountains from the libriamento to the Joco bypass with a few on/off ramps along the way. They could make it a toll road and let the Ejido collect it for so many years.

Anyone who is in denial about remote workers already being here are fooling themselves! They are here and many more will come.

As for a toll road, best of luck getting people who object to paying the Macrolibramiento toll to go to Costco or into Tonala or Tlaquepaque.

The numbers reflect the initial response to the pandemic; not many people trusted Mexico or other poorer nations to handle Covid very well in 2020 nor part of 2021.

In 2021 vaccines were more readily available, giving some Americans confidence to remote-work in inexpensive places like Mexico.  The vaccines also resurrected the plans of some retirees to move to Mexico that they delayed in 2020 and 2021.

Many remote workers are techies and many tech giants implemented their RTO policies (return to office) in the past few months; most are hybrids with x days at home and x days in-office.  Makes it a tough commute from a foreign land.

Also news reports of layoffs in the tech industry are increasing daily and are expected to continue into 2023.

The 'fun in the sun' remote workers may be hitting the road back to the US sooner rather than later.

Unlike many countries, Mexico chose not to come up with a plan for remote workers. So many arrived on FMM'S and failed to tenet. There are even special groups that provide advice on how to avoid renewing and avoid attention. Sure they may have to pay the $638 FMM fee as a fine to fly back out and get a black mark in the system. Or they could take a chance on driving to the border and simply cross without any mention of the FMM. The threat is that they may never be allowed to reenter Mexico in the future but one has to wonder about that being enforced.

I have no problem with those who follow the Rules & Regs and go Temporal!
