Gourmet Garage. Everything!!
They are so well stocked and organized. We found everything we wanted that is hard to find here. A joy shopping there.

Re: Gourmet Garage. Everything!!
Having parked at the store in Chapala and worked my way through the tightly stocked shelves, after seeing all their great FaceBook page posts about new products, I was quite excited about the shop opening in Riberas. But it's turned out to be an overpriced bust. And they rarely get any of those great homemade products that they used to in Chapala.
SuperLake and Pancho's have almost the same selection, and a better selection on a lot of things. I've asked for several items from the owner at GG, and been directed to a list to add my request... and after almost two years, never received any of them. Always the same answer when I ask: "We never know what we'll get". Okay, fine, then stop with the list.
As far as requesting special items, I now get "attitude" every time I ask at Pancho's... the worst one was asking for a 10 kilo turkey last Christmas, checking online with them several times about the order, and finally on pickup day being told "No, we couldn't get any that size. How about a nice 7 kilo turkey?". Only SuperLake seems to care, but they have also given up a lot of inventory and begun stocking more mundane items.
Bottom line? I'm glad we have these places, but it is sad to see them back-pedalling.

All I can say we found every unusual item not found at lakeside here today. A man speaking English guided us to everything we wanted.

The cold shoulder from the owner at Gourmet Garage can be really chilling and effective at getting you to not speak to her EVER again!

Wow! It’s like you are talking about a store to which I have never been. Not my experience at all, not ever in any visit I have made to GG. Guess I am just lucky.

Went to GG today and young man took me right to Grandma brand molasses. Very kind and attentive.

Yah but $149 pesos for a can of Bush brown beans - come on!! I don't think I will continue to feed that craving.

Bush’s best is expensive here. Best to shop the price.

What do you think would be a fair price for importing cans of beans from the U.S. to the central highlands of Mexico?

Yes, I asked for an oil change, they are a garage right? Wanted extra virgin olive oil, apparently I am the crazy one.

About double what you can buy them for at your typical Walmart in the US. I haven't been there for awhile so maybe the prices have gone up that much?? About $3.75 US a can? Seems $7.50 US a can is a bit of a stretch - at least for me.

SuperLake imports and sells Campbell's Beans for 39p. Smaller can, sure, but I'm from Canada and Bush's are overrated, AFAIC. But they also carry Bush's for a lot less than $149. So does El Torito.

HEB stores show a price of $2.04 US ea, for the 28 oz. cans. I just found a 12 pack offering on Mercado Libre for $1287 pesos including free shipping (about $107 per can) so have ordered them. That is a bit more palatable.
