Car insurance for foreign vehicle
Hola! This is my first post - thank you to the admins for letting me join.
I'm preparing for a road trip to the Lakeside by car with Canadian plates, and I'm looking at Mexican insurance quotes at Bestmex.com. The quotes I'm getting seem quite reasonable. It lists quotes from four comapnies, Mapfre, Quálitas, GNP, and HDI. I have to pick one. Do you have any words of caution about any of these? Can you recommend one that has worked well for you?
Thank you!

I used Jesus Tejada in Guadalajara for many years. He represents AXA Insurance
He can be reached from Canada at 52.33.3563.1300 or jesus@tejadainsurance.com
When it counted and I was T-boned on the Libramiento 2011 he came right through and I had my payout in less than 3 weeks.
BTW, I have found him a little more competitive than Lakeside brokers and I trust AXA more than other insurance companies.

Lewis and Lewis are good. I have purchased from them before. They also sell ' driver's license' insurance, which is interesting. You are insured for liability only ( and some token amount medical) for just yourself, and you can drive any vehicle legally in Mexico. In an accident, if it is your fault, you have pay repairs on your vehicle and the victims. But if they start talking liabilty law suits, their adjuster will back off immediately if they see the license coverage because they would now have to deal directly with a highly experienced insurance company rather than a private individual who maybe speaks limited Spanish. Also, they cannot impound and auction your vehicle, especially if the title is in someone elses name. That would be theft.

I know I can't right now. Progress is being made though as Canada is opening land borders to US travelers to Canada as of today, with restrictions. I'm hoping in the fall I'll be able to cross the border. Now there's the Delta variant picking up steam, so things could very well be shut down again. Cheers!

I used Lewis and Lewis for years and liked them very much. No brainer.

One thing I really liked about Lewis &Lewis is that their paperwork looks so official, almost presidential.

It probably intimidates the other insurance companies. "Ellos son serios!"CHILLIN wrote:One thing I really liked about Lewis &Lewis is that their paperwork looks so official, almost presidential.
