Don't care about that interview at all.
The other three have my attention, mostly the Pope's visit, considering all the misery caused in the name of religion, any time religious leaders are willing to talk to each other, I am for it!
The other two are kind of a toss up right now.

No particular effect on me by any of them but I´m sure if you visited TOB, it would be the new traffic lights at Walmart in SAT.

I didn't watch the interview, and those people certainly have no effect on my life, but I read some excerpts and I do think it's a bit historical for a British royal to make that break, and make it known why, and also the racism that was brought to public light- that concerns were expressed about "how dark" their child's skin might be. It also put some needed news focus back on Prince Andrew the pedophile. So I don't find it just celebrity fluff. I think it has some importance.

You get a lot of that in Mexico too, sadly.

Yes, I'm aware of that. Racism is found almost everywhere. It's gonna be a hard one to beat.
Many years ago, when I was living in San Miguel de Allende, I stopped into a little restaurant for dinner. A one man show- he was the owner, waiter and cook. I was the only customer at that point and after he had delivered my meal, he sat down at the next table to watch the telenovela on the TV up on the wall.
I watched for awhile while I ate, then asked him "So how come all the stars of the show look totally white and the "bad" characters look like average Mexicans with darker skin, like you?"
He looked at me with a curious expression - it was obvious he had never considered that inherent racism, even though the racism involved those like him, and said he didn't know.

I´m not talking about racism.
I´m talking about the same race, even the same family. No one wants to be the darkest skin in the same family,

Of course that's racism. Just because they are actually all the same race doesn't make it not racism. Mestizos are mixed race, white and native, therefore there is a lot of variation in skin color. If there was no white in the mix, they'd all be the same color, just as isolated tribes are.

It's actually called "colorism". Not racism.

When visiting us from Germany my wife's grandson (who is half Mexican) was putting skin darkening on. I asked him why and he said it was because he wanted to be a basketball player!

When I took my Mexican family to Ireland, they couldn´t understand why the Irish would frequent "tanning parlors". To them...... an oxymoronic business. I told them that´s where the Irish get their freckles.
When you´re brown you want to be white and when you´re white, you want to be brown.

I´m talking about the same family, like brothers and sisters, with the same father(?) and mother.
Light skinned and dark skinned African-Americans carryon about it amongst themselves but NEVER in front of all Caucasian/European people.

Yes, I realize you're talking about those in the same family. But don't you see why it's even a focus? The idea that those with white skin are superior goes way back. That racism is so ingrained and so unconcious in many people, even those demographics who were colonized, enslaved, and treated inhumanely still have that perception. Why else would darker skin be seen as something one would prefer not to have?

Tell that to the lily-white Irish who either go to tanning parlors or Costa Sur in España and bake themselves in the sun like real Irish potatoes.

I baked until tan in my youth. I stopped when I noticed what happens to middle aged ladies who kept up the practice! Lots of them in Caliornia.
I have no factual idea where and when the light skin superiority notion started. It makes no sense.

Re: An The World Keeps Turning
I had a handyperson working for me. Never noticed but he was darker than most mexicans. One day a rich Mexican neighbor was talking down to him so I asked him what is going on. He told me he was half brown and half black and so this was his role in life. He hated the well to do mexicans. I asked him about how he was treated by Gringoes and he said fine no problem. Now maybe he was telling me what he thought I wanted to hear but I hope he was telling the truth to me. Sad truth is I worked all over the world for a while and never saw a place that didn't have winners and losers by color or religion.

Re: An The World Keeps Turning
There seem to be as many definitions of the origin of racism as there are people in the world, most centring on slavery of Africans. From what I can see, prejudice has existed since Day One, and racism is a form of that but aimed at anyone of a different colour or country... prejudice thereby becoming catalogued. But this is a very basic definition, of course.

Re: An The World Keeps Turning
I don't know if it is racism but I have noticed in my cattle herd same color cattle tend to stick together. If there are only a few cows in a pasture, they all stay together. When there is a larger herd, they will divide into blacks, reds and whites. Don't know which is the dominate breed. There is a pecking order among the cows and the strongest one is the boss and they will fight among each other to establish the pecking order. If there is a cow they don't like, two or three will gang up on her. The different color of cows are different breeds and this may have something to do with it.

Yes, it is probably because of their breed that they congregate together. But having said that.... I don't know of a DUMBER animal than a cow!

Re: An The World Keeps Turning
When the center of civilizations was Mesopotamia and Persia, in the Middle East, an later the Greeks and Romans along the Mediterranean, they were much darker skinned than the lighter skinned Germanic, Scandinavian, and Rus Tribes to the north which they viewed as barbaric savages, which of course they were, until they weren´t.
I think power is more important than skin color in the development of prejudice.
With power comes prejudice.
