Local Oil Change Suggestions, Por Favor! Empty Local Oil Change Suggestions, Por Favor!

Post by Jubilacion Mon Nov 02, 2020 11:41 am

I'm looking for suggestions on good, local and reasonable priced oil changes for my car - while you wait.

The last post I found was 2013 and that seems just a bit too long ago!

Gracias!

Don't know about 'while you wait', but one can always call and get an appointment stating 'while I wait'.

Having said that, one probably won't/can't find a better, more reliable and honest English speaking mechanic than Felipe Morales at AutoCheck in Riberas. Hidalgo#90

Call him for a morning appointment then walk up the street to Mom's Restaurant for breakfast.... or lunch if later.

Car wash in Riberas will do your oil at the same time. I think everyone's prices are about the same now. Although Felipe may be better.

The most economical way is to get oil on sale at Autozone and take it to your favorite guy. Autozone occasionally throws in free filters.

Good question. I haven't seen a new one. It seemed like a prosperous business.

Bob I have to admit that that is my mindset when NOB... or change my own.... but when in Mexico I prefer to let the mechanic make as much 'extra' as he can. Especially with someone as honest as Felipe.

When I was with the Air Force Laboratories we did a study on oil changes and found unless the oil was contaminated or overheated. You could get the same results by simply changing the oil filter every other time. Of course changing the filter you had to add another quart of oil.

Sounds like false savings to me. In addition, today's automobile engines go a minimum of 5,000 miles, many 6,000 and a lot of them 10,000. But engines cost a LOT to replace. I'll just change my filter every time thanks.

I buy synthetic oil on sale at Costco for a bit under 600 pesos, get a good quality oil filter at Auto Zone for 100 pesos then there is a mechanic in Chapala by Zaragoza and Degollado for 100 pesos will do the oil change and blow out the air filter. Good quality and cheap.

FWIW I recently bought Mobil One synthetic oil at an Autoparts store and the clerk told me he did not have the oil filters for synthetic oil for my Nissan Kicks. I never realized that synthetic oil required a different filter. So I googled it up and found that either filter will work ok but the filters designed specifically for synthetic oil have a different media and are better. So if you are OCD you now have something else to obsess about. Very Happy

I bought 2 synthetic filters for each of my vehicles just to have on hand, not like they will expire in 6 months or years. I also stock up when Costco has a sale as my car takes 5 quarts and my truck almost 7 so 2 cases of 6 works and I buy 4 cases at a time to have plenty for 2 oil change per vehicle per year, I drive each maybe 6,000km a year, rotate weekly to not let sit

Every major motor oil manufacturer says you do not need a special or different oil filter when using synthetic oil. The better quality an oil filter is, the better job it will do in filtering contaminants.
I only use OEM oil filters from the manufacture, since they have to warranty the vehicle.

If you use aftermarket oil filters, you can't have a warranty claim on your engine denied simply because of using this filter. The manufacturer has to prove this caused the failure.
