Re: Price of Avocados
OUCH! You could post the prices of other veggie's as well and they'd be a shocker for most Americans and Mexicans alike.
Minden... worked in the Tuck Shop at the Red Umbrella Inn the summer I was 17. On Twelve Mile Lake. I made killer milkshakes but I don't think they made a profit on them. Always wondered if it was still functioning.

Re: Price of Avocados
It's a bit unfair to compare prices between a domestic product sold within its source of origin, to an imported item. What's Super Lake selling maple syrup for these days??

I no longer buy maple syrup in SuperLake. I do buy the real maple syrup (imported) at Walmart. Requires label reading until you know what you're looking for... and it's gone from 100 pesos to 120 pesos a bottle in the last two years. Beware because it's not always there. It's an occasional treat to be used sparingly.
Canada's growing season is short so most veggies, even those grown locally, are expensive pretty much all year round. I am always shell shocked when I visit and am buying food.

My point was, is it fair to compare the Chapala price of a domestic avocado, to the price of that same avocado after it's been imported to Canada? I.e., what's the price of Canadian Maple Syrup in Canada, vs. the price of the same item here sold here in Chapala? I don't know the answer, but my guess is you will pay more for almost any imported item of the same quality and/or brand.

Ack, so what. He had fun paying a better price and wanted to tell us. I can dig it.
The bigger news is that locally the price of avocados has dropped from a stunning 65p+ price to 29. That's more like it.

When I lived in Canada I'd buy fruit and veggies when they were in season and cheap, then freeze or can them. Also grew a big garden so didn't buy many veggies. And when I go there now in the summer, most of my friends and rellies also have gardens, so I don't buy that stuff.
But I'm also shocked when I go to the grocery store- it seems you can't walk out of there without paying at least $40CAN for a small bag of groceries, and that's not a bag full of fancy imported foods.

We are fortunate to get fresh fruits and veggies here pretty reasonable. Fruit like berries all year round on road stands. Just picked field to table.

Last time I was in Paris the limes were a euro a piece... and really who cares we live in Mexico.. Local produce is cheaper than imported produce and it ishould not be a surprise.. Check out the price of truffles or Maple syrup or any imported stuff that most of us have no interest in anyways..

Re: Price of Avocados
Don't forget: the cartels have basically taken over the avocado trade in Mexico up north.
