Its on the side streets across and just south from Soriana supermarket in north Chapala. It is similar to the Ajijic Wednesday market but a lot bigger.

They have been having a Monday market (which we have attended) in the Sunrise Market location for a while now. I assume it will continue.

It´s smaller, more specialized items, and prepared foods.
Each different, both good.

I think part of the problem is calling a tianguis a "market" and the Sunrise market the same thing. If it's outdoors it's a tianguis and if indoors it's a market. That will help keep things straight. And the newbies need to learn the Mexican names for things.

Tianguis are unique and well worth frequenting. The expat inspired 'markets' never attract comparable interest, and tend to be overpriced.
Each town has a weekly tianguis on a specific day: Monday in Chapala, Wednesday in Ajijic, Thursday in Jocotopec, Sunday in Ixtlahuacan, etc.

Or items not popular with mexicanos who could afford them. A lot of transplant people here bring their foreign taste buds with them.
Dine….. !!!

Re: Monday Market Lakeside?
FOLLOW-UP REPORT....
We found the Chapala Monday tianguis (a traditional Mexican market) just a block south of Soriana on the west side of the street. It's bigger than it first looks with small taco food vendors most well received by the crowd; clothes, sundries pollo, pescado and fruits and vegetables. Some good some not. It's about the same size or maybe a little larger as the tianguis in Ajijic on Wednesdays. Hands down we both preferred Ajijic. May try Chapala again sometime if we find ourselves over that way, but no special trip for us from SJC.
We did swing by Sunrise Restaurant after Chapala Market close to noon so we may ave missed the best of it, but did seem like a lot of prepared foods. May give this one a try again. They were going to close at 12:30 so we were late to the party.
Thanks for the help, all.

You got it right on all counts!!! The vendors try to put their best foot forward on Wed. in Ajijic when all the picky foreigners are there. Some probably up their prices a little too.
Mon. in SAT is mostly for the folks who don´t like to cook at home or go to restaurants.

To avoid conrusion; especially for newbies:
A tianguis is a tianguis, singular or plural, different from the next two:
A mercado is open daily, usually until mid-afternoon and generally in el centro. or in a large neighborhood.
A market is usually an expat inspired event, catering to expat tastes.
