Taxi rates
Seems like every time I take a taxi from Ajijic to Chapala or Riberas I am charged a different rate. Is there some standard they go by or is it up to their whim?

Re: Taxi rates
I have been told there is. But it's been so long since checked I better not guess what the costs are.

They have specific rates, and if you ask them, they will tell you. I think that at one time it was $60 or $90 pesos from Ajijic to Chapala. I just know that there are set rates

Ask before you get in the taxi. If too much ask the next one or tell him you will take Uber for half the price.

Find a driver recommended from someone else (guys that used to go to the airport are pretty good - search this board) and find a couple of guys you like. Call them when you need a ride. String together a bunch of errands, they wait for you, etc. Doing it this way, I have spent $200p, for a couple of hours, got a lot done & they are making a living. I think people forget that a lot of local drivers used to earn a living wage driving people to Guad for doctor appointments, taking people to the airport, taking older people to Walmart for shopping.. all things not happening anymore.. Time to get your shit together & line up your taxi driver, your doctor, your cop, your Costco deliverer, your translator, friends who have your back... it's srsly 'who ya gonna call' time..

Thank you and the others for their replys. I usually try to incorporate the autobus in my travels depending if I have bought something or not. Being Lakeside only 6 months a year, I have resisted buying an auto but my wife is working on me. Actually if I don't have to stand, I enjoy riding the autobus.

I wish it was as simple as that...where the heck are the Uber people, there is something I do not understand ....why the Uber business did not take off at Lakeside..or is the business not as large as I think it is??

Re: Taxi rates
Most Uber drivers were here after bringing a fare from Guadalajara or the airport. Once here they would/will do some local stuff until they can find a fare back. Now a days there wouldn't be many around. I do show one running around at this very moment.

For me, over the last 10 months, it's always been between 60-80 pesos to/from Ajijic and Riberas. No idea whether I'm getting hosed or getting a deal, just throwing it out there. I ask in advance but haven't had to bargain.
