If you regularly visit here as a guest it is better to sign up and log in. You won't see Google ads and you have a few options to only see new posts. The best one is right under Date & Time you can click on "new posts since last visit" which saves a lot of time searching every category. Signing up does not cost anything.

Hola, Saludos a todos desde Tokio, Japon.
This is my first post on this board where I have been lurking for a long time. I thought this board might be right for me.

I have been visiting GDL for many years as a short time snowbird.
I could not visit Mexico this time because of my dental issue and COVID-19.

Please stay safe and see you sometime soon, I hope.

Buenos Dias, Ukiyo, and welcome to this board! I have read and enjoyed your posts on Japanese food on TOB. Sorry you have been unable to return to Mexico. How is it working out in Japan? Are you quarantined?

Welcome to all the posters who have left the dark side for the light side, you have made this board better!

Thanks. Maybe it depends on how you access this board. When I first access inside Lakeside I see date and time and new posts, view your posts, view unanswered posts. But usually as soon I get to Inside Lakeside I click on ...the mirador (I usually don't look at any other headline) view new posts etc disappear. Maybe I have to slow down.

Hola, Trailrunner, thank you!
I have been just staying away from the crowd, wearing the facemask when I go out.

The Japanese government actions have been so slow and lousy;
they have not conducted enough testings,so far 405,071.
quarantine measures were almost voluntary counting on the individuals and companies.

But as you can see the numbers below, it is quite odd and strange, ie
we have significantly low death numbers comparing to other countries.

accumulated Covid-19 infections are 16,385 cases
3,718 positive patients now
31 new cases added today
fatalities 763 (suspicious deaths were medicolegally chequed)
as of May 19.

Buena suerte!!

CanackBob,
Many thanks for your acceptance.
I am a Japanese citizen who lives most of his time in Tokyo.
My wife is a Mexican, una Tapatía, whom I met in Gdl about 45 yrs ago.

I had been in a medical (cardiac) business for a long time in Japan, and after I retired I spend a month or so in Jalisco as a short time snowbird.

One of my interests is preparing (authentic) Sushi which I miss when I am away from home. Another hobby is motor racing; I used to race in Japan but I quit, though I believe I can still stand on the podium now. I want to live a little bit longer, ja ja ja.

Every time I hear the news on Covid-19 in Mexico the vague thought comes my mind how I can be a small tiny help in assisting poor kids in Mexico, which I merely get a hint on the other board.

Hoping to see some of you in the future,

Ukiyo! Thanks for responding and sharing. I hope you get to spend more time here, would love to meet you. Your wife must miss her country and culture, no? And tacos!!!

I was born and raised in Hawaii and am quite familiar with Japanese culture and food! Lucky me.

I guess I can say I was mainly in the cardiac business as well.   Very Happy
What aspect of it were you in?

Tacos and sushi! What more is there to life?

Hi Trailrunner!
Yes, I'd like to spend more time in Mexico, will try next time.
Thanks to the recent technologies my wife enjoys video conversations
with her relatives in Mexico and the States everyday.
My wife prepares tacos at home, so I do not miss much. My daughter
had a Mexican restaurant in Tokyo which became very popular and awarded 10 best restaurant in the first year.

The line of products we have distributed in Japan were, cardiac pacemakers, external pacers, heart valves, vascular grafts, etc.
My last assignment was taking care of R&D, manufacturing EP and
ablation catheters which still hold the no.1 position in Japan.

I sure will see you when I visit Mexico!

Ukiyo: Mike Riley, Computer Guy and your student, here. Welcome to the board. Where your travels will be much less stressful than they were on chapala.com.

I'm glad to hear you are well. I have a question I've been meaning to ask: do you recall the bottle of sushi wine with which you gifted me after your excellent class? It is completely in Japanese on the label. I believe we drank some, maybe used some for marinade. What kind of wine is it exactly, and in what dishes should I be using it? Or is it for sipping?

Maybe Bob could organize a "sushi swarm" on your next visit here at one of our not so famous Japanese restaurants along the north shore.  lol!
Although there is a Japanese lady in Joco that has a very good Chinese restaurant....go figure.
It would be nice to get together socially for the group.

Hi Mike!
I'm glad to know that you are doing a ok.
I believe the wine that you have is called "Shochu" which is brewed from sweet potato or wheat.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sh%C5%8Dch%C5%AB

You can drink it straight or on the rock. You can also warm it up a little bit. Yes, also you can use it like cooking wine when you cook. If the taste turns sour, please discard.

Please stay safe,

Hola Ukiyo!
Mike was so lucky to take your class, please put me down for your sushi session when you return!
Interesting career you had, so you were a rep for Medtronics, Zoll and the like in Japan? Those devices were made in the US, right? You must have met a lot of interesting people and cardiologists in Mexico. I look forward to talking to you about that.
Ok, be safe, stay healthy, eat lots of sashimi for me, and see you when you get here!

Hi Trailrunner,

Sushi session: Ok

The companies I had dealt with were as follows, as you know many of them were changed in the game of mergers and acquisition.
Pacers: Intermedics➡Sulzer Medica➡Guidant➡Boston➡X➡
Sorin ➡X Boston again
External PM: not Zoll but S&W (Danish co) that had the patent
Arrow Int'l, Penn: sheeth introducers
Carbomedics, Austin, Tx: heart valves
Cobe Lab, Denver: Oxgenators
Vascutek, UK: Vascular grafts
AWE, SF, Ca: Stents and baloon catheters
Cardiac Pathway, Sunnyvale, Ca: EP & Ablation catheters
and many many more.
I know many Japanese doctors but I have not met Mexican doctors or physicians. Mainly I have dealt with vips of the above companies.

OK, take care! adios
