Super Lake
Trucks in the parking lot, off-loading boxes, looks like they'll be reopening soon. Maybe for this weekend.

Re: Super Lake
I'm told they will be open Monday. We will see.
If so, I certainly hope they did some deep cleaning and painting! Also hope they initiate home delivery!

Re: Super Lake
I was in Super Lake, the last day they were open, they were almost totally cleaned out and I got the idea they might have been going out of business.
I guess, I hope they reopen.

Just heard, official opening is tomorrow. Guadalajara Reporter just dropped off 400 copies of tomorrow's paper.

M., Polo told me he would reopen unless the restrictions were more severe or long term. But you never know, people change their minds very quickly sometimes.
There were trucks there making deliveries there at about 1:30 PM today.

Re: Super Lake
Yeah, got the message a bit ago, thanks. Looked suspicious when I went buy because the truck was hiding all the garage entrances and I could see no food, but just the luck of the timing for me. I think we're all happy for this, and hoping it works out. And of course they just got 400 Guad Reporter papers in, so people will be able to get their paper again.

Last time I was there before they closed the white floor was black and had not been cleaned for ages. So how are their areas shelves cold cases being cleaned. The floor was black.

I don't know whether or not (or when) Superlake will re-open; however, given the impact of the current situation on all businesses, I hope proprietors and landlords alike will try to work things out. For example, I can't imagine there are a lot of businesses lined up to take Superlake's place if it, hypothetically, would not re-open.

Re: Super Lake
Pancho is much better than SL ever was, I quit going to Superlake because of all the dust on shelves and dirty floors, by the time I checked out I was having allergy attack so never went back..

Re: Super Lake
I disagree. Pancho has very few of the items that I was used to buying at SuperLake and those that he does have are much more expensive. SuperLake improved a lot after Pancho left. I was in there about once a week and found it getting more organized and much cleaner as time went on. Each to his/her own.

Re: Super Lake
SuperLake was always more of a high-end grocery store also with day-to-day stuff, but Pancho's is... I can't really describe it. To me, the selection and quality of just about everything went downhill at SL while the prices went way up after Pancho left. Especially the absolutely terrible, awful choice of many of the fruits and veg. When Soriana has a better produce department than SL, something is up. I'll be very happy if SL goes back to the kind of stock they had, because I can't really buy much of anything at Pancho's except produce.

Re: Super Lake
I guess it depends on what you buy normally in either store. To me, the produce sucks in both stores and there are many stores and stands with better choices of both fruit and veg. YMMV.
I could get excited about ANY store that allowed me to buy as much as I wanted... like open boxes of mixed lettuce or broccoli florets or baby carrots. I just can't use all of anything when it's pre-bagged.

Re: Super Lake
Ferret, if you ask at the small fruterias/produce marts they will break down stuff. Those 3-packs of large Romaine; the large sized containers of berries, asparagus, grape tomatoes, new potatoes....they break them down for me and charge pro rata.
I shop produce store on Ajijic plaza and their sister store on the carretera; I think they are Lopez?? My guess is any of the smaller stands/stores will do this for you.

Re: Super Lake
Pancho's selection of goods now is so high end it appears he's trying to look like a fancy US store. With black shelves, low lighting and outrageous prices for "gourmet" stuff that I don't want.

Pancho has about 25% of the selection that Superlake has at the best. Shopping at Pancho´s reminds me of "The Old Woman That Lived In The Shoe" when there are more than 10 people in the store. And the prices are higher on items that you can find in both stores.
I'll take a little dust and dirt for some space and selection.
Today they were so busy at SL around noon, I thought they were giving away free groceries.

Shopping weekly at Panchos or Super lake is like shopping at the airport. The only difference is the aisles are wider at the airport.

Re: Super Lake
SL has been basically the only place that can provide my Asian cooking ingredients, like tapioca starch and bulk panko, cheap dark and mushroom soy, and other items from Toyo in Guadalajara. Pancho has a much smaller selection, almost all over-priced in comparison. Same with other things like kosher salt: usually 3 or 4 kinds at SL; nada at Pancho's last time I looked. So of course, it depends what you want. Also, Pancho's "deli"? Where are all the sliced meats? A puny collection of ridiculously-priced stuff in a cooler. Much more choice at SL, including a good variety from Costco.

I find the biggest difference is the selection of airline tickets, airport way better.

Absolutely, a couple of gourmet chefs in my family says they aren´t even close when it comes to product availability of special ingredients.
